I've taken 2 test drives of the Rav now. The noise under acceleration isnt great but watch how quickly it went from 50-70mph (4 seconds). 30-70 is sub 7 seconds. Its quick. That and good economy and interior space, and for floods it can wade 50cm (officially rated). Its great!

@TukaSlave
@TukaSlave 5 жыл бұрын
I always enjoy your vids Mat, because you offer the feel of a car like no other reviewer. Like the tactile sensation of holding the door handle, for instance. Just an observation: in "Trail" mode, more power is sent to the rear wheel electric motors, to assist with uphill progress. In "Sport", more power goes to the rear to steady the car in low traction road conditions. Overall, the RAV4 Hybrid is the most economical, and probably the most long term reliable, family SUV on the market. The Mazda CX5 is more fun to drive, though, as is the Adventure version of the RAV4. The Suzuki Jimny is the best off road.

For me I calculate there’s a 2000-3000 saving per year the rav4 has over my current car. This includes savings in fuel, insurance and servicing. Over an ownership period of 7 years this’ll pay for the changeover plus I’ll be ahead with the residual value of the vehicle. So saving money is one reason people get this car. The product is compelling because I can’t remember the last time the “performance” model was hybrid. From standstill the instant torque from the electric engine makes the car “feel” pretty quick. Finally this is the best selling vehicle in the US (excluding trucks). This SUV outsells all of Mazda in the US. While you should take car reviews with a grain of salt, the market rarely lies.

I did have the previous model to this as a company hire car for about 4 months last year. It was 2.5 petrol hybrid and for the size of car it is pretty fast when you have it in Sport mode. It was 100% reliable and I grew to love it, the only thing that was really bad was the infotainment and satnav which were SO slow. iT looks like this new version has a better system though so that is good news. I just wish it was a few grand cheaper as its out of my budget when I come to request my own company car. Mine was black with black alloys and it looked awesome.

I was skeptical in the beginning because we bought it out of necessity and price/quality ratio. But by now I’m getting really fond of it. Got few mods like HUD in the front, new grill, and few extra things for the front bumper, akrapovič exhaust heads, planning on installing catback exhaust. It’s a really nice vehicle that you love more after you start driving it.

Drove the XLE Premium version in white as a rental. It's surprisingly comfortable but the seats can get a bit stiff after a few hours of non-stop driving (especially on twisty roads). The 5.7 seconds 0-60 is also quite noticeable once you put your foot down, but for the average person you won't notice the difference between the driving modes. All in all a fun car, very spacious and good knee and head room, along with more than enough boot capacity. Fair note, the white colour will come off as fairly dirty after a few trips. Edit: Corrected 0-60 time.

That little pocket next to the gear stick is where, if you live in a flat with shared garage parking, you would place your garage door fob. Most people in the uk or US won’t know this as they have individual garages / driveways but in Europe especially Spain where I live and I suppose in Japan, most live in flats and share a garage under their building...

I have the same noise on my Pajero IV, there is an electric brake fluid pump and if it fails, it's really expensive. I think it's a similar set up here. It allows greater electronic control over braking.

@@scotiajinker8392, yeah. In the Pajero it's for imitating diff locks, but not all cars which have these "diff locks" have this system. It's just a more advanced system with more adjustments.

Subaru haven't launched a new and exciting model since about 1824, so why would they bother reviewing them? I love Subarus from the era they were great, mid 90's to exactly 2008. After that all they've done is absolute rubbish. You can't possibly argue otherwise.

@@worrywart1311 Compared to Toyota, Subarus are like Ferrari 812's. Toyota is by far and away my least favorite mainstream brand. I agree about all their models, but they do still have the Supra and Land Cruiser lineup. So, still better than Subaru.

Reliability will always be my number one priority and Toyota delivers every time. Cars are made to be driven not parked at the repair shop. I guess I have not yet recovered from the horrors of BMW X5 and Nissan Qashqai...lol. Both were used cars with less than 30k miles on them.
