The V35A-FTS V6 isn’t a new engine, it’s been in production since 2017, designed to replace the 1UR & 2UR V8’s in the Lexus LS. Toyota clearly over estimated its potential as a viable replacement for the V8 in a truck or whatever modifications were made haven’t worked. Toyota needs to get back to what worked for them before, bulletproof engines and drivetrains. Stop chasing the tax credits for making everything a turbo hybrid. Or at least offer a naturally aspirated engines along with the turbo hybrid offerings, give customers a choice.

Toyota not living up to its good reputation (rolls eyes) is not new. I bought a new Camry in 2009 only to discover Camrys assembled in Kentucky from 2008 to 2013 had a high rate of defective piston rings. At about 50k miles my car started smoking on start up in the morning and it got progressively worse. Toyota didn't make good on it. At about 100k I told Toyota called me when I gave a bad review and offered me $1k rebate if I bought a new car. That would be laughable if it weren't true. At about 125k miles many things began going wrong. I have 142k miles on the Camry now and in the last 15k miles I have had to replace the front axles, ABS brake system, emissions system (from all of that oil bleeding into the cylinders), catalytic converter, and more. I need to buy a new car soon and have looked at Highlanders and Rav4s, Honda Passports (There is aclass action lawsuit against the 9speed transmission from when it was in the Pilot), etc. Almost all of them are going with a v4 turbo engine which means more power and gas mileage but much less reliability and more expensive repairs. So far I haven't had much luck finding a SUV I feel is reliable at a decent price. Toyota is such a disappointment.

The timer thing for the airbags isn't being reported on enough, probably because news writers don't understand what it means: The cars were performing MUCH worse relying on the sensors to trigger the airbags, meaning they might be one OR MORE stars worse for safety than previously reported.

Most car people know Toyota and Honda fell off years ago, it’s just now that the general public is finding out. The Honda 1.5 is a steaming pile of crap and has been in so many of their models the last few years, blown head gaskets before 150k, burning oil like crazy, not getting up to temp, oil dilution with unburnt gasoline, the new Toyota twin turbo V6 in the tundras that are knocking like crazy cuz of the main bearings, forced induction will never be good for longevity and will be the downfall of Honda and Toyota’s “they last forever” view. Not to mention they are switching to CVTs and some people will say not all CVTs are bad, yes they are by design there is a lot of friction and they are destined to break. Unless they go back to NA power plants and normal Automatics they will never make cars that get over 200k miles easily without needing to take the heads off or taking apart the transmission

I will tell you a lot about toyota. There have been many engineering issues that have been hidden for years. Back in 2009 when toyota had a massive recall I will tell you that the car company put on display its vehicles in its own factories, reception area hall that showed to people what the cost cuttings are. The vehicles even had little arrows showing what will be taken away to save money lol. Little arrows taped to the vehicles. The display stands literally shown what it was they were cutting back with the amount of dollars saved. Yes the company put the amount of money saved. Example road rash stickers or trim edging for window frames on the door. When I saw this I said with friends you will see a massive recall. I have been around vehicles a long time and know politics bullshit and all its ugliness. They all do it but when you have a car company like toyota that boasts how great they are which is lies to hide their wrong doings. I always questioned this boasting as so should consumers. What are you hiding with your propaganda reliability advertisement.

Completely off topic, but this is the latest video from a reasonable, informed owner with good posts. I don't expect any opinion but would love one. I've been looking into my next move for a while. I'm in the states with a limit of $60k purchase, who drives 5k/yr, it unfortunately will be a daily on hills and sometimes cold, and my first 2 choices are a 2018-21 Audi RS5 coupe, or a 2018-2019 Jag F-type R, depending on mileage of course. With driving exp and knowledge of maint. schedules, What's the call?
@markholubetz
@markholubetz Ай бұрын
Heart and soul say F Type, by a long shot, but that fact that they are being discontinued and there are usually more service centres for Audi in most cities, and average maintenance costs are a bit lower in the Audi, the RS is probably the better choice for the long haul, vomiting in mouth though because the Jag is so much nicer a car, IMHO.

You seem to forget 100 years of domestics doing the same thing, though its no excuse for malfeasance. Toyota will recover from this and fix the underlying problems, and if they don't the market will correct it for them. The powerful distributors decide what you can actually buy since the distributors are the customer to the OEM, not the end customer. As to pricing, remember that is the dealers (for all brands) that set consumer pricing not the OEM, so feel free to hate on the dealers - I do! The best thing for consumers is to break the dealer Pac and go after the politicians that are forcing consumers to buy from scammers. New cars are a poor financial decision for most people anyway. Time to put the ego aside and not overbuy transportation. $20k gets you a premium high quality used car with lots of life left in them. (I've had Toyota's from 67' to 24' so I am a fan boy, but they are by no means perfect like any other company)

Toyota switched to the TTV6 in the Tundra from the 5.7 v8. Many youtubers tell me it's about emmisions and efficiency....so how is it that a reliable engine like v8 isn't more efficient than a ttv6 when you need to replace an engine well before its predicted life cycle. The energy needed to cast more blocks, pistons etc surely must count for efficiency or lack there of. Can someone explain how this is actually true!

The oil cooled turbo actually uses the engine oil to remove particulates from the exhaust in this design. That's why the oil in a V35A looks horrible after 3000 miles. In pollution control, pollution cannot be destroyed. It can only be emitted in a different way. Rather than putting it through the exhaust, pollution goes out with the waste oil....destroying your engine in the process.

What's good for customer is no longer good for corporate profits. The original idea was, take care of your customers, offer good value and you will get ahead of competition. Now it is a racket, competition is kept out of the walled garden, and the few privileged players inside can get away with crappy, disposable products at inflated prices. What real choice do you have? Can you build your own car, or buy one from another country and drive around here, good luck! 😂😂😂

What I think is going on and I mentioned in another video with the V6 in the four cylinders they’re over boosting them and they’re not using forged pistons for rods they’re not building a performance engine and then putting two screws on it. They’re taking a shit box engine would direct injection and then over boosting it with two turbo chargers without the bottom and or the top and actually being built for that much pressure so they’re fucking blowing up.

3 years ago I was in the market to buy a new SUV, went to Mazda,Subaru and Toyota dealerships, the Mazda was low pressure and the salesman presented all the features of the car safety and performance he Let us leave and got our info in case, the Subaru guy knew the features and let us test drive the car and then let us leave that same as the Mazda salesman. But the Toyota salesman was the worst, didn’t really know much about the car we were driving , came with us during the test drive and then introduced us to his supervisor(who had a really sweaty handshake!!) then got my info and text bombed me 2 days later, gave me info that I already researched on the company web site and tried to pressure me into a sale, saying I could get better financing if I put more down etc as well other info that I already knew.. they guy just killed any sale. I don’t want to go near there, can’t imagine dealing with them if for warranty issues and how they would charge for regular maintenance and repairs. Needless to say I got the Mazda it drove really nice and is built in Japan and I really liked the features and the dealership experience.

Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian are looking better than ever. Thank you, Toyota for botching the V35A-FKS. The 2018-present Lexus LS is the only Toyota product with the same engine that is reliable apart from the 2018 growing pains. Even if they fix it and they make it as reliable as the 3UR-FE 5.7 V8, Toyota could end up discontinuing the Tundra, Sequoia, LX600, and GX550 as a result.
