Great video guys! I just put my backup camera and monitor in my 2007 Tundra per your instructions and it works great! Toyota is awesome to have already pre-wired it. I appreciate you posting this and also learning from your tips (and mistakes). The trickiest part for me was trying to get that little gear out of the console where the sunglasses holder was - push it in, don't try to pull it out, lol. Love the accents too. Thanks again!

Jim Fred I just picked up a 2008 Tundra, where did you get your parts?
@jim8129
@jim8129 5 жыл бұрын
@@singplumb I purchased the camera from TailgateCamera.com. It's great because I emailed them with my year Tundra and told them I was planning to use the factory wiring harness under the bed near the spare tire and they made sure that I had enough wire to make the connection. They also included the clips to keep the wiring loom in place like the factory would have used. I bought the new handle off Ebay, although I probably should have just bought that too from Tailgatecamera - they sell it as a package with the camera for a few dollars more. I also bought the flip-down style console monitor from an Ebay seller as well. I just wish that monitor screen was a bit larger, but that's the way Toyota did it back then and I wanted to keep it as stock as possible and keep the original stereo. If you need part numbers let me know. Good luck!

Since your vehicle gets to see a lot of road salt you should put some dielectric grease in the connector under the vehicle to prevent it from getting too much salt and moisture in there. :)

Sometimes heating the plastic to mend it the way you anneal metal or glass works better than glue. Otherwise I would glue another piece of plastic behind it to strengthen it. I noticed you held the key when you started your truck. It's funny how many people do this on Toyota's when it's not needed. Toyota's have an electronic start which is just like the push start only with a key. I know it's a hard habit to break. I still remind my wife when she drives my Tundra.

The camera is the one that was included with the Ebay kit, if you click the listing in our description it may have some info but I think you may be better off finding an aftermarket one that is very similar to OEM.

Anyone know where I can get the entire camera and display package now, Feb 2021. Have a 2007 Tundra SR5, relatively low mileage, I hope it will be my forever truck. Present system is unreliable, and requires manual activation of screen. If you forget to turn it off, if you don't drive for a couple of days (I'm retired), it kills the battery.

If appearance is not a factor (as in your case) what I have done on more than a few occasions is the following: 1.Crazy glue it to hold the pieces in position 2. Melt intact paper clips into the plastic until level with surface (if the material isn't too thin for this. 3. Re-tin your soldering iron tip for the next 10 or so minutes.

The wiring is located in the back underneath the bumper area as we somewhat show in the video. In the cabin its in the top left corner when you take the center section off.

That long pinchy thing for "extracting hard to get objects." We had a ton of pen sized versions of those in our high school computer class. We would clip them on the back of the teacher and each other's clothes when they weren't looking it was pretty funny. The teacher got so upset about it. She said if she found one more on herself there would be big trouble. The next time she found one on herself she seriously freaked out and sort of had a breakdown. Nobody ever clipped one on her again. Good times.
