Another thing to note: If you are parking the car for a week or more you will want to disable the RF ID keyless entry system. You do this by toggling the button under the steering wheel. With my 2008 Prius the battery will get low after a week. But if I disable the system when I park the car, the battery is fine even after 2 weeks. Note that this only disable the feature that unlocks the door when you touch the door handle, pressing the unlock button on the key FOB still unlocks the door.

Well, I am glad you showed what you did but it still doesn't want to open. All I want to do is attempt to jump this thing but now I feel I will have to break the darn lid just to get to the terminal. Can anyone tell me exactly how this thing works?

Working on Prius #4 in our family: the last one was destroyed by a driver who thought driving with uncontrolled seizures was okay. However, I replaced the 12V battery in my wife's first one (a 2002) in 2013. Yes, it was 11 years old. We live in a cold environment; when we lived in Phoenix I never got any car battery to last through three summers. Anyway, I learned to test my battery (I bought a tester for about $15 at Harbor Freight) every year. There are no warning signs at all, except some things might get flaky since the battery stabilizes the 12V inverter. My 2002 is now my son's; it has 400 CCA now so it should be good for a few more years. (We rebuilt the original hybrid battery last month, at 210K miles and 19 years. Not bad for a first gen!) Our 2014 is still above 600 CCA. Life is good.

You don't need to crawl on your belly like a reptile to open the hatch if the battery is dead. I drained my battery by leaving my dome light on. I hooked up a battery charger where Peter showed you under the hood. This supplies enough power to open the hatch. Then I removed the battery, took it inside and charged it. It's been working fine ever since.

"Coolant Heat Storage Tank" would always drain a small amount of battery power, if you are not using the car for over a week or two, it's better to have a battery maintainer hook up to the car auxiliary battery.

I have 2010 prius, 150k miles. I put jumper cables under hood as described to open trunk and access battery. I tried to jump battery in trunk but I did not get anything when I pushed prius ignition start button. Bat terminals are pristine clean. My question is: must there be a minimum voltage sensed somewhere in the starting circuit activates. I read battery without jumper cables. It read 8v. I put it on a battery charger and not much improvement in charging it. The battery sticker born on date is J16. I presume that means Oct 2016. This is Aug 2021. I purchased from Toyota in Feb 2017. Will Toyota prorate a new battery because it hasn't reached its life since my time of purchase? Thank you in advance ☺

I recently did it:-i forgot my light on and the battery dain to 11.6 v and the car won't get in the gear ,staing to beutral only[ i do not know if this is realeaited to it or no..?] and alsaw i run out of gas, which i top it up whit a gallon, but not before i try to turn the engine on couple times. I try to jump start it but it won't turn on... Wat i understand that if a hybrid get to this position were you try to turn the engine on tree times, the car would automaticaly shot in self out, and it won't turn on untill you remouve a surtin' code. Is that true?? I always thoat thst in case you run out if 12 v battery or fuel you could rely on the hybrid battery to take you 2 miles untill the next petrol station or gatrage to sortit out....[ I gies is not the case....+ You can NOt Toe the car being a hybrif you xoukd damage the electric engine...] Alsaw i whent to check how much is a new Toyota 12V Replacement battery and thei tell me thei could order it for ...-238 Pound's [??] Shoking~!!!... Way The Prius 12v is soo expencive the a regular one , wat is the difference? P.S -I boght this 2008 Prius 1 month ago... Thanks.

Petah, do you mean all Toyotas are not generally known for parasitic draw in the electrical or just the Prius? I like that you mentioned here the use of the strut nut for the ground because on a couple of videos I saw you jump the car on the outside with the Tundra and Camry you put negative on the negative and I really wondered why. Some say the battery could explode if gases are present.
@waltp3373
@waltp3373 3 жыл бұрын
On the Prius, there is no negative terminal under the hood. The battery is in the back. You just need a good ground for the negative. On other cars, where the battery is under the hood, you attach the jumper cables to the negative and positive battery terminals. Hydrogen gas is released only when the battery is charging not just sitting. There will be parasitic draw on any car that senses your keyfob. It has to use electricity to check for keyfob signals.

@@waltp3373 I was talking to Peter before and not talking to you. Now I speak to you. Tell me something I don't know. ALL of what you said I already know. He just showed us the jump points. And on other cars, still a better ifea to find a good ground on the car. Gas can be present at any time. Prius is special and it says to disconnect the battery if parked for an extended time due to electrical features. And I asked him if OTHER Toyotas have that since he said in a way where it sounded like he implied something. All of your comments had nothing to do with my comments. Don't talk to me and tell me things unrelated to my comment. SMH
