Still my favorite game. If they had gone back to 1981, we could've seen one of the craziest Cliffhangers ever played. It can be found here by searching "greatest cliffhangers".

I loved Mountain Climber as a kid and still do, however, I always rooted for the climber to fall off. 😅

Dennis James actually called him Fritz, who was unaware that Janice Pennington’s husband had disappeared while mountain climbing in Afghanistan. She ran back stage crying and did not appear on camera for the remainder of the episode.

I miss the decade of the 80s so much and the game shows that used to come on during those years along with the TV shows and movies and just the overall positive outlook of life and our country and now with every crazy thing going on it’s so depressing that’s good times seems so far away so

4:32 I think the prices of the small prizes in Cliff Hangers are always progressively more expensive (unlike Spelling Bee). so it's extra annoying when they guess the second or third prizes are less expensive than the previous prize.

Not much from what I saw other than the contestant, in the first one, bidding in dollars and cents at one point. This, I bet, was just an excuse to throw a compilation together.

Throughout my childhood I thought Cliffhangers was operated by a computer. I never knew it was operated by a human until recently. 😊

It’s mechanically, with someone backstage pressing the buttons for the mountain climber to make the corresponding number of steps. It’s not like a hand crank.

That last contestant actually lost. They stopped the mountain climber 10 steps short (should have been on 22) on the second prize and nobody pointed that out.

That's what I was thinking. However, standards and practices on the show state that any mistake on the show's part results in an automatic win for the contestant, regardless of the actual result. We saw that with the malfunction in the third clip.
