My dad is in this video. I cannot thank Trace and his team enough for putting this together. As hard as it was to see his picture, I know he would have been shocked and pleased that his service was recognized. When he came home from Korea he was treated very badly by some of the public so he kept his service to himself for many years. He slowly started to speak about it a little at a time as we got older. We always told him we were very proud of him and we were grateful for his service. He would have been touched by this recognition. To all who have served or are currently serving: thank you! To the families with loved ones in this video and to any family who has lost loved ones, we feel your pain. I pray The Lord will show His mercy to all of us with broken hearts.

My wife was confused because I set a place for my Dad who had recently passed away. 23 years of service. She went to pick it up and I simply said "no"... later she said she had never seen that look in my eyes before. It may not be the exact definition of why we set an empty chair but it made me feel better and closer to Dad. Miss you Dad, keeping your memories alive as long as I live.

A sad part of military etiquette is honoring service members who have fallen in the line of duty. Remembering them honors their sacrifice and that of their families. It also underscores the importance of the commitment to duty made by the living. One beautiful, thoughtful way to honor those who have died is a Fallen Soldier Table. Each element on the table symbolizes something specific. Table: a table set for one is small symbolizing the frailty of one isolated prisoner. The table is round to represent everlasting concern on the part of the survivors for their missing loved ones. The tablecloth: the tablecloth is white symbolizing purity of their intentions to respond to their country’s call to arms. A single rose: a single rose in a vase signifies the blood that many have shed in sacrifice to ensure the freedom of our beloved United States of America. This rose also reminds us of our beloved family and friends or our missing comrades who keep the faith, while awaiting their return. Yellow ribbon: the yellow ribbon around the vase represents the yellow ribbon worn on the lapels of the thousands who demand with unyielding determination a proper accounting of our comrades who are not among us tonight. A slice of lemon: the slice of lemon on a bread plate represents the bitter fate of the missing. Salt: the salt sprinkled on the bread plate symbolizes of the countless fallen tears of families as they wait. Inverted glass: this glass inverted on the table represents the fact that the missing and fallen cannot partake of the food and drink set at the table. The Bible: the Bible represents the spiritual strength and faith to sustain those lost from our country. A lit candle: the lit candle is reminiscent of the light of hope which lives in our hearts to illuminate their way home, away from their captors, to open the arms of a grateful nation. Empty chair: the empty chair represents the missing and fallen aren’t present.

@@shelly2599 I really don't understand why nobody handle this. Last year there were more than 30 US country singers and two famous British singer who wrote to me. After I chatted with the first one on Hangouts, I had known they are from a scam group from China, and I do believe they want to help Biden and Democratic Party to make a profit. I complained about that first one's English, he said he can use translate software to write. (what kind of logic?) And after that, he started to use perfect Simplified Chinese to chat. I didn't know that such a perfect translation software exists at all. His Simplified Chinese was just as of a native speaker's. The second person could not answer any question about country music. And the third one is the stupidest, I asked him to write down ""Hi, Gianni, I am Luka"" on a paper, and shoot a picture with his face. He did it, but the picture is fake, although he photoshopped the photos perfectly, the name of the star is Luke, not Luka. How is it possible, that a country singer doesn't know his name.

Many years have gone by since Vietnam. I moved back to a small town about 10 years back, and was encouraged to join the Legion. The first time I walked into the hall, I walked past a table setup with a single chair. A place was set for a meal and a candle was burning. The area was roped off with a velvet rope and a "Reserved" sign hanging on it. When I saw that setting I nearly fell to the floor. I knew in my heart what it was for. Every Memorial Day I go to the wall to say 'hello' again to those I know, and to meet others who shared in that time. Still every time I see that setting in the hall, I have to stop, lay my hand on the table, and silently say "thanks". G-d allowed me to come home. They were more privileged in that they got to leave this world a hero and arrive at the next one as a hero. I am forever grateful to them for their sacrifice.

I have been fortunate to see Trace Adkins twice in small venues. I was so close to the stage I could have reached out and touched him! What an awesome voice! When he sings you not only hear his voice, you feel the love and respect he has for our brave men and women in uniform♡ Each time I hear "Arlington" I think of two things. First, I think of all the brave souls buried there. Second, I think of how this hallowed ground came to be. During the Civil War the Union army took over the property of Gen. Robert E. Lee. This is what we know as Arlington cemetary. Union General Montgomery Miegs was in charge of this endeavor. He was a friend of Gen. Lee before the war. He was angered by the fact that Lee chose to lead the Confederacy. He was determined that none of the Lee's should ever live at Arlington again. He had bodies buried in Mrs. Lee's rose garden! None of the Lee's lived there after the war. Sadly one of the young soldiers buried at Arlington was the son of Gen. Miegs. Gen. Lee's 3 sons and 1 nephew survived the bloody battles. Many on both sides survived physically but carried the horror of the war with them the rest of their lives. Norma Jean Morrissey. Lover of History☆☆☆

@Trace adkins ♪ You are a true patriot!☆☆Your song "Arlington" makes me feel the love and devotion each of those resting there had for our great nation. Each one had a special story to tell, to share with family, friends and all who care to listen. Even those who are "unknown" to us are known & loved by our Heavenly Father. As a student of the Civil War I know that many who died were sadly never identified. Some wrote their names & other info. on paper and pinned it to their uniforms. Sadly, some couldn't read or write! It wasn't until WW I that our men had "dog tags". Known or unknown, each person at Arlington deserves love and respect from every American.☆☆☆☆ Norma J. Morrissey R.N. Student of History

I wish I could like more than once. Amazing, touching, and gripping. I smiled and actually got misty. The only Trace Adkins song I like more than this is “Arlington”. Given I like most of Mr. Adkins music, that is saying something.

Something we can all do to honor our deceased vets, and show their loved ones we care. There is a tradition of coins left on vet gravestones. If you leave a penny it means you visited: a nickel is you trained together at boot camp: dime is that you served together: quarter is you were there when the vet died. At most vet cemeteries the coins are gathered monthly then donated to vet programs. It's a way to honor the living and deceased heroes.

As the daughter of a WWII Army Air Corps vet who served in the Pacific Theater for 2 years until WWII ended and stateside for another 2 years who passed in 97. And my husband who did 4 yrs Army 2 Germany and 2 stateside, I want to thank all the Veterans who are still with us and those who are gone. You are brave men who deserve a lot more than the service paid you. Everyone of us should donate to Wounded Warriors so they can all get a smart house mortgage free to make their lives easier. Thank you all for your service. 🇺🇸 ❤ 🇺🇸

Hi Cristian, I know how you feel. I'm a military daughter, military wife and now the proud mom of military sons, two in the Air Force, ( both overseas), and one who works on nuclear engines for the Navy. My entire life has been a constant worry and heartache with many, many goodbyes. It's a life not many understand or support but I stand proud for our flag and for the 1% who defend it. Trace always makes me cry with his songs and love for our men and women in uniform. He understands and he's grateful and it shows. God bless him! 🇺🇸🦅

@@normajeanmorrissey2903 It's nothing! Last year there were more than 30 US country singers and two British singer wrote to me during the US presidential election. After I chatted with the first one on Hangouts, I had known they are from a scam group from China, and I do believe most of them want to help Biden and Democratic Party to make a profit. I complained about that first one's English, he said he can use translate software to write. (what kind of logic?) And after that, he started to use perfect Simplified Chinese to chat. I didn't know that such a perfect translation software exists at all. His Simplified Chinese was just as of a native speaker's. After the US presidential election, now they continue to deceive people to buy Bitcoin from them!
