I just moved to the uk from the USA and class is something I'm unaccustomed to navigating. How do people educate children out of their class in public schools?
@Murgatroydian Жыл бұрын
@@swilson5320 It's not the academic education but the education in social climbing that goes along with it, as demonstrated in this video. It happens in parts of America too. Meghan Markle's a prime current example. Her father worked to fund her lavish education and lifestyle, but as she broke into more "elite" circles, she denied their relationship and the support she received.

@@swilson5320 Not sure if, as an American, you're aware of this: what you call 'public schools' are called 'state schools' here. We call private schools public schools; it's notorious for confusing foreigners. For the British, a 'public school' [as in the above film] is not available to any member of the public, it is the top level and charges an enormous sum to the parents. Traditionally only children of the higher social classes were admitted; only recently have a very small number of middle- and working-class people [and only if rich] been able to enter.

This is a masterclass in acting and writing. It works on so many levels and brilliantly encapsulates class divisions which still exist in the UK today - now blurred by the upper middle-classes adoption of woke values. Today, conspicuous wealth and dismissive, condescending attitudes are masked by upper-class advocacy for mass immigration, the EU, globalism and multiculturalism. They have 'adopted woke' as another form of superiority but the patronising snobbery is still there in spades; the same contempt exists for the working-class with its 'Brexit', working-class accents and 'Little Englander' mindset, as they see it. More than ever this divides the UK as sharply as a knife. This short piece is both funny and gut-wrenchingly revolting at one and the same time. Ullman is an amazingly versatile artist and must be a joy to write for; she obviously knows the territory very well indeed.

What if these and dad got together with the Charles, Camilla, and the brother and wife, and they all got along. There’d be signs of them laughing and playing Cards in Windsor Castle, or having a picnic in Windsor Park, watching Netflicks together, going to the theatre, and just having a ball with new friends. They’re shown dissing each of their new Relations in total agreement. All this is become Hugh News that the two in flooded out Monticito are totally over looked by the Media. The new Hot news has totally switched to the properly favor the the RF and the ignored Markels and that they really do have a dad. This would be so wonderful to watch, because what I’m seeing is that both families are pretty nice. It’s one person here we aren’t aloud to mention in print who is the Problem. This story of the girl and her Parents is so sad. It totally reminded me of mm and her denial that she doesn’t have a father. You are a Master actor and humanist.

Lets compare and contrast what the American version of this would be. The same dutiful parents willing to sacrifice for the betterment of their daughter by enrolling her in a "institution of higher learning". 4 years pass and the child has been "transformed". What was once a dutiful child, filial and humble is now anything but that. Upon her homecoming she informs her parents that they are "racists" and oppressors and should be ashamed of themselves for contributing to the continued existence of the "patriarchy". This once sweet daughter is now a shrill rapacious non-binary incel harpy well versed in radical feminist rhetoric which she uses to castigate both her parents with. The big difference from the British version is that the American daughter informs her parents that she will now take up residency in the home and won't , if ever, be leaving it. She details what her parent's duties shall be and how they must change their beliefs so as not to offend or trigger her with micro-aggressions such as insisting that she seek out gainful employment. The parents, having expending all their savings in addition to taking out a second mortgage and co-signing student loans have now invested well over 250k now realize that they have no recourse or escape from this debt must now relinquish the thought of a happy retirement and or basking in the glow of treasured grandchildren. The daughter, having degrees in "gender studies" and "diversity , equity and inclusion" finally decides to dip her toes into the world of employment. She finds that her degrees are of no value in the real world other than perhaps getting her that all important second interview for a stocking position on the night shift at Walmart. Reality sets in and rather than accept the stocking position she dedicates herself to part-time face-painting at local carnivals with the hope of someday achieving a higher status by painting faces on the state fair circuit!
