I was nearly attacked in India by stray dogs for simply walking past their territory.. even as I backed away their snarling jaws were growling at me as they edged closer towards me late at night.. Very scary it was.. during the day they are fine.

It’s not just India, this is the case in most third world countries. The idea of domesticated, daily showered dogs blew my mind when I moved to the states. I always thought they’re vicious creatures that love to chase us as kids growing up haha.

Dude, street dogs only attack if they see something fishy. Most of those like you who visit India are too scared of street dogs and start quivering. That's when the dogs attack. I have been to thousands of places and encountered thousands of street dogs and none has bitten me. A few growled when I used to act scared and that's it. Also, those street dogs who attack or bite someone are immediately captured by tolfa. If you complain, all the dogs in your locality will be taken by government. But people don't complain as street dogs give protection against thieves and are always attentive.

@Pavan Kumar These dogs cause such a nuisance. In almost every other country they would be put in a natural habitat that's meant for animals instead of forcing them to live with humans. Only here they are allowed to roam free and spread diseases like rabies. Humans are not supposed to live with animals. The animals should live in the wild. Anyone who thinks otherwise is crazy.

Reason may be one of their child would have been killed by a reckless motorcycle driver. Animals are far better than filthy humans, they don't attack ,until someone harms them . They don't possess self-consciousness, by which they can differentiate, a member of human society attacked them ,killed their children killed them with vehicles, the next time they hear or see a accelerating vehicle they chase it. The problem is with people, not with them , we people should be punished The problem is still the same as it was 4 years ago, though in many cities of country sterilization of street animals is ongoing, But the question is why they move to streets ?locals need to think it ,the solution lies with them .

I was attacked by 8-9 dogs at 5:30 am in morning while i went for a jog, i was passing by the territory of dogs who used to sleep near the temple. It was dark ,deserted and empty road. While passing by a dog out of nowhere started to charge at me for no reason i suddenly stopped and stood their like stone but the other dogs soon followed charging on me one after another, my heart was beating so loudly at this moment i was scared and there was no one around to help me, but somehow inside me i got the feeling that I'm strong and fearless these dogs are no match for me, i will not turn into a pu**y who would get Bitten by these dogs so that's when I grabbed a brick nearby and started charging on them screaming like a gorilla me vs 9 dogs , that's when the dogs realised they made a mistake and started running in opposite directions, Luckily I was not Bitten and i continued my jog. These dogs attacked me once again after a week but i was not sacred I did the same thing and later next day i brought some biscuits as a gesture of peace and it worked now they don't even bother me 😀.

It is a real problem for ordinary folks in many states. Especially in Kerala. Not for the elite who roam around in motorized vehicles. @@devangjain-1541 I have seen 4 year old kids badly hitting the dogs with bats and stick. I have seen kids throwing puppies off the terrace and sometimes in fire, in winters. I have seen puppies pelting stones at dogs only for fun in fact most dogs are scared of children than adults. I have seen kids lifting puppies by their tails and ears and kicking them like football. But I have never seen dogs retaliate not once but I wish they do, so that these kids could learn a lesson. And all these things happen while parents stand and watch. FYI, there's a channel here on KZfaq called Animals Aid Unlimited India, - you can see rescuers going to save dogs that are scared, in extreme pain and most of all they don't know what these people would do with them but they never bite, not even once. According to statistics by Indian government, you can see around 90% of the bites and attacks are result of rabies. As for rest 10%, these dogs are severely abused and tortured only then they bite for self defence. But I do really wish these dogs should retaliate more but they don't.

My dog was murdered by a veterinarian who beat dogs to death with a hammer. But, even after all of that, I believe the people of India have a right to their streets at night. The aggressive ones need to be put down without a doubt because they will attack humans, other dogs, and can push what would be a non aggressive dog into one. The reason dogs are typically human friendly is because we breed the aggression out of them and raised them by our sides allowing the friendly passiveness to be dominant, if they are just free roaming and breeding themselves then of course the strongest and more aggressive are going to start out breeding and killing the friendlier dogs and even going for humans.

A. Tority Not a bs theory, that’s how we got dogs from wolves. It’s also similar to how we deal with the stray cat problem in America, round up as many as you can sterilize and release, putting down especially sick or dangerous ones. It reduces the population and makes sure that the ones out there are more likely to be human friendly.

why kill them? we ain't cavemen , yo, we don't pick up a club and beat something to death nowadays, keep up with the news! It's better to send them to the wild so they can mix in with the wolves and return to where they belong. and the friendly ones can and should remain here. and we'll need to fix ourselves, we beat them and ill treat them so they've got a general dislike for humans either through experience or simply genetics.

I lived in Guatemala for a year and the stray dog problem is huge over there too. There was a street close by my Uncle's house were I was staying where a group of like 4-5 stray dogs would hang out I think the neighbors would feed them and they even made them houses to guard. Ya my friends and I would always pass in our bikes trying to see if they would bite us trying to go as fast as we could since the street was on a hill. Ya it was fun and all but I'm pretty sure if one of us was to fall somebody was gonna get killed. Everywhere you would look stray dogs the scary thing is not knowing if they have rabies. I heard that a city got so tired of them in Guatemala that the people would poison the dogs by putting the poison in the trash which the dogs would then eat. I know its against the law but India should be looking at a solution here

Its crazy how BBC still hold a grudge and the jealousy of them is unreal. They don't realise UK functions on multicultural community, without Indians or Africans, UK cannot run. Barbers, Shops, Indians even own a large amount of houses in UK. Most people that lived here recently don't realise how racist UK was, in 1999 till 2013 it was one of the most racists places Indians could live in, my grandad used to get eggs thrown at him while walking back home, they also threw it on my dad's car and my dad chased after them and they ran like cowards. Of course some of the british love the Indian community and culture but I am talking about the ignorant ones that are racists. Only an Indian that was raised or born years back will know how it was like as an Indian here, my parents and grandparents been living here for over 20 years, we owned 2 houses so we have a good amount of experience living here.

Luckily I happened to have a large dog and a metal pipe with me at the time, so they backed off. Scary moment though. Eventually, the town elders started getting rid of them by feeding them poisoned meat every few months or so. Sadly, a dog I was friendly with wasn't kept indoors during the night in question and must have died as well. I never saw her again.

The problem is those dogs where once pets. It’s the neglect of leaving them homeless that causes this sort of issue. Some places set up dog sanctities where they can live out there Natural lives These Are often funded by donations the ones that are young May be rehabilitated and sent tk rescues

China doesn't have this dog problem. Spent 3 weeks there and I would be lucky if I even saw 1 dog a day. Those dogs were in a nice car and on the lap of the owner. No such thing as a stray dog in China.

Me and my friend were waiting to be picked up, when I saw a pack of like 10 dogs. My friend tried barking to scare them, the next moment god forbid we became Olympic runners. We got in the car but they were still chasing after the car 🤣😂😂

I was in Leh in December 2017 and it didn't seem dangerous at all. Hardly heard any dogs barking and the locals never mentioned anything about staying indoors at night 'coz of dogs. Go figure...

They do come out more at night and try to own the streets. I have experienced this first hand in other cities in India.

He is Leh at 8 pm which quite surprising as they were still open at 8. They should have closed by 6 pm or so.

Our country needs to get rid of all these strays. It's difficult to step out at night
