True, I stayed with a local Goan family at one time, in Goan village house, we experienced traditional life, boiling the water for the shower in a large cauldron outside, using washing pots to shower, seeing the dog have babies, cow dying in the garden (not their cow it wandered in) and then taken away by the community clean up etc, playing with the children, reall friendliness. I wouldn't have changed the experience for the Taj, but we cycled in Goa to the Taj Hotel and had a cold drink and banana split for lunch at the outdoor eating area there. Cycled for miles through rice fields and villages, along the seashore, and seeing fishermen bring in the catch of fish, and the women laying out fish to dry at the side of their homes.

What’s wrong with staying in a 5 star hotel in India? The hotels are not the same as a 5 star in other parts of the world anyway, and you can still see the real India once your outside the confines of the hotel. It’s the very best of both worlds, and I thoroughly recommend it.

Are you joking ? Tourist ruining the area with rubbish ? The rubbish was there when we got there , in fact the tourist or foreigners are more concerned about rubbish then the locals.

Garbage is the pride of Indians ! It's littered everywhere.

Where are you from mate?

If you are from the UK think about breaking up your flight instead of flying directly. Fly to Istanbul for like £50 then fly to Dubai for 100 and then fly to Goa for another 100. Once you are there it is crazy cheap.
