Not sure why KZfaq tossed this up, but it sure brought back some memories. Not sure why the driver ended up trying to take his short-cut, unless perhaps it was a combination of the Sun in the face, being tired or some such. It is amazing just how much of a mess some driver trying to push things can end up creating. I was a volunteer FF HazMat responder in NE Indiana about 25 years ago, and a driver decided to push his luck and make it to his destination ahead of an ice storm. He *almost* made it... during normal weather, it would have been about a 30min drive to where he was headed, but somehow, he did a 180 on a 2-lane highway and shifted his entire load of automotive paint, solvents, phosphoric and sulfuric acid (among other things) out the lower half of the trailer doors. Everything was covered with paint, and many of the other drums were leaking. What would have taken me 30min to reach took me 2.5hrs, not counting the state police officer stopping me (he ended up being assigned to escort me to the scene), and over the course of the night, we ended up with so much equipment contaminated from all the emergency decons we had to do due to our airpack regulators freezing up while in the hot zone all through the night, the bill for the response was around $500K. Definitely not a good run for that driver, or his company. Thankfully, most of our runs were trucks which had fuel tanks compromised and we would end up having to give the scene the "kitty litter and booms" treatment. Stay safe! There are idiots out there who cannot even see a nice, big, red fire/heavy rescue with lights and will hit them on a good day... if they end up doing that, I would hate to think about all the close calls you have had with your white units.

I worked for a lorry mounted crane company in London UK back in the 70s. We would be often called out to this type of recovery, and some that were a lot worse. I would do the lifting and a wrecker would do the pulling. Saved a lot of time and effort. plus I had a lot of timber outrigger packers so these came in handy for setting a bed for the tyres. Yer we could all do it different and use different equipment. But you've got to roll with what you've got. Feel real sorry for the driver, hope his truck wasn't hurt too much.

lol i wasn't surprised when you mentioned a Rotator came up before i even read any of the comments. Yes you did a fine job without one since it can be done without the use of one. We have one thats already closing in on 18 years old still works like new since it doesnt get used much. Plus the damn things are super expensive and for what little ours gets used it can seem a life time to pay them off.

At 1:16:00 When he pulled up on the road, for some reason I felt just as relieved and good as the truck owner. Have no reason why I watched this all the way through, but sure was great. I do not watch tv, don't even have one. This video is far better than anything one would find on tv. I would not want to work in recovery, but maybe I would not mind if all recovery jobs were like this and tougher. One must think and plan, use the head in these kind of recovery's. Thanks for recording this from start to end, really enjoyed it.

I'm another with no tv. I did some recovery using much smaller trucks (like F350s from the 70s and 80s and an F450 from the 90s. Great work, sometimes stressful when dangerous (steep slopes, heavy traffic, overweight loads) or bad weather especially at night. Fun getting a loaded semi up an icy slope with a one ton wrecker.

Reminds me of when I was working road construction we were always getting our dump trucks sunk in sand or soft dirt even with a dozer to pull us out we needed to dig the frame out of the sand.sometimes going into the sand pits there would be a removal team just chaining up all day. This is work but with the proper experience and team work with the equipment they have it is doable

I'm waiting for the comments to start pouring in saying this job would have been easier with a rotator! LOL I believe it may have been easier because you could just have lifted the trailer onto the curb and then lift the truck up over the curb. Although I know well enough that there is really no reason that you would need a rotator for this recovery! Lol stay safe and once again great recovery!

sure a rotator would have helped, but this video clearly shows IF you know what you're doing AND you know your equipment, and have good teamwork (which CLEARLY y'all got all 3) you can get the job done. I DO Have 2 questions though..... 1) why not double up the straps so they're shorter, which would give you more line to work with; and 2) why not use a spreader bar? Clearly y'all got the job done, and I ain't trying to criticize. just honestly curious :)

Just randomly found this channel, absolutely awesome. Its pretty cool you work with your dad. I also work with my old man (its a situation a lot like yours), but i know all too well how taxing it can be at times. Its definitely not unicorns/rainbows all the time as i'm sure you probably know.

Trent, I am new to your channel and I know everybody has their own way of doing things so I am not here trying to tell you how to run your business. That being said I would say that at least half of the videos that I watched of yours so far, the rotator would have made the job so much easier. Keep up the good work!!

What are those tubes on the trailer hubs? Central lubrication or compressor lines to the tires?

hey buddy ! Nice work pulling out that truck & the trailer. As a truck driver I understand how much of a good job you ALL did. By the way, what brand & model is your camera? Picture & sound quality is superb.
