Simple Parts made complicated! I ran a club up in Massachusetts for years and we owned and operate our own sled, TONS of work. Logan does a great job!

Nice explanation about the workings of a current pulling sled. I’ve been a tuck and tractor pulling fan since the late 70’s when everything was controlled by levers! Also, if you look at the close up of your push down cylinders at 3:52, you’ll see why the welds are cracking at the pan. If you add a heavy steel roller on the top of the push down it might allow the freedom of movement need to not flex the bracket? Looking forward to seeing you around this season!

I remember going to tractor pulls at the local county fair as a kid way back in the 70's and 80's, and only today finally learned how a sled actually works. What's really interesting to think about is how it's engineered for this single purpose of competitive pulling.

lol, well clearly pulling sleds have changed since last time i went to a tractor pull. used to be a sled with weight on it. how about a video for us old timers on the history and the reasons for the changes in pulling sleds.

I have a question about transporting the sled to a facility. Can the sled ride directly on public roads or does it have to be transported on a flatbed trailer?

Nothing lmao there's no other practical use for this other than maybe testing a vehicles tow strength but there's other equations for testing that.

Looks identical, except for the paint, to the sleds the NTPA uses. Who supplies the cabs also?

Most use cabs from actual Case tractors.

There are only three people who build sleds in this configuration. Vaughn Bauer (who built the sled in this video) builds the Ironman sleds, Brandon Bungart builds the X-Factor sleds, and Richard Love (who owns the sled in this video) builds the Decision Maker sleds. There are others who build similar looking sleds but have different driveline & hydraulic configurations. All the cabs are either purchased new or from salvage machines, some are tractor cabs, some are combine cabs.

Still don't understand how this system is fair between competitors. It seems pretty random when the weights go forward and the sled digs.

It depends on speed the faster you go the fast the track pushing the box forward and same for slow speed

The movement of the weight box is driven directly by the wheels of the front axle of the rear tandems. The box will hit the front of the sled no matter if you're pulling it 3 mph or 33 mph. Of course the settings are changed from class to class, or if the first puller in a class goes too far, or not far enough.

Great explanation! Watched a big Case steam traction engine drag the pan off the track, couldn’t stop it.
