Hey Tim. Even us southern fokes feel the spring weather. Especially when we have an arctic cold mass blow through. But I know the feeling. Nothing like feeling that beautiful warm sun shining down on your back gives you that wonderful feeling that spring is here and I’m ready get outside start working.

I just bought the paddle power sweep 4 days ago. Yes it gives you a workout. I mounted it to a FS 130r. I found lowering the handle down the shaft a little helpful for balance. The head is just heavy. My private street is made of millings about as long as your driveway, maybe a little longer. I am working on pushing the millings back into the street along the whole road that I pushed up during snow removal operations from the winter. Good thing you got your ticker fixed before lugging this tool around. I did not buy the wheels, it may help, but I am not sure how well in lawn applications. I love how it does not destroy the lawn and a lot easier then trying to rake millings out of the lawn. Great for pushing 3/4" stone long distances from where my snow thrower deposited it near my pole barn. A little pricey, but I think it will be worth it when I think about the years of use I will get out of it. I am going to try and push some high mound build ups of garden dirt later this Spring after I roto-till with the 3pt .

Yesterday was Wednesday, we hit 50 degrees Fahrenheit here in Mid-Michigan, it was so nice to step outside and cook a steak and baked potato for supper, had to sweep the rock salt off the deck first due to the crunch. Next Tuesday we hit 60+, can’t wait... I’ve seen numerous business’ use the paddle wheel such as yours for that exact purpose. Our maintenance man at the city would also use it on the lighter snow covered sidewalks, saved him a lot of time, and cleared really nice.

When my daughter was toddler, we had a cat that used to follow us down the road to the mailbox and back just like a dog. There were o couple of times he ended up at my work by riding in the back of my pickup. I would have to take him back home and would be late to work. We miss him. Really enjoyed seeing Martha. He brings back good memories.

Tim, I've had a Shindaiwa Power Broom since the middle 90's It's gas powered and works unbelievable for getting all the rocks and sand out of the edges of all the lawns. What we do is flip the whole unit over and drag it at an angle along the edges. The debris are now getting tossed towards you, at an angle but it's so much easier. Hope this helps.

I have been using the Shindaiwa PowerBroom since 1999. One item that is helpful is a handle mounted on the shaft. I would also remove the guard. Then when you get tired of pushing gravel you can turn the unit over and pull towards you for awhile. It’s still work but much better that a rake and shovel. I have been using mine for the past two days and have more to do today. I have not tried the wheels.

I'm one in the Deep South. Always loved it.(sorry it turned blue.). However we visited our son a few years ago when he was stationed at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks Alaska. It was in November. When we got off the plane it was 32 degrees below zero! Brrr. That was cold. But no, here in GA no snow and the winters are pretty mild. Never saw one of those tools you were running but looks like it is doing the job. I think you would be amazed if you had a metal detector to give your property a once over. Glad you are doing well from your surgery. God Bless You! Mark.

I've been clearing snow from my gravel driveway for over 50 years. I used to rake, shovel, etc. the stones out of the grass each spring. Then, a while back I bought some fiberglass driveway markers and lined my driveway and parking area. When plowing snow I do not push any snow past the markers. When spring comes and the snow piles melt, any stones in the snow piles settle back onto the driveway - not the grass. In cases where I have huge piles that crept past the markers, I pull that snow back onto the driveway when things start to melt.

What a great little cat. Same colouring as mine whom used to happily sit on my lap when I used my excavator and despite the rocking and rolling and noise would quite happily nod off to sleep. That cat was scared of nothing as long as I was there. Would curl up on my lap if I was sitting welding or love up to me while I was testing a screaming engine or want to climb my leg and have me hold him while I was pushing a mower. Had a Rottweiler and a Shepherd and they were scared of him but he didn't bat an eyelid at them. Used to amaze people. Lost him last year and I miss him a lot.

Those warm days are a mixed blessing. On the plus side all the outdoor work can begin. On the negative side, the first chore is to put away all the Maple Syrup gear as the trees stop flowing. Hopefully that won't happen for a few more weeks here in New England. Then, while we prepare flower beds and till the gardens, the sap will slowly boil away reducing it to syrup. Not only is it a wonderful smell, but the hot fire is a welcome refuge during the work. Doesn't Ventrac make a rotary brush for the front? Seems like that is the solution you are looking for. As for your cat being like a dog, we call our dog a cat as his favorite "perch" is to lay on the back of the sofa so he can watch the world out the windows. He's kinda too big to really be up there, but he doesn't seem to mind.

Raking those pesky stones was a thorn in the side before we got our driveway paved with asphalt. I'd have thought you'd go with a landscape rake on the 3pt or a broom on the front. Those power brooms are such a workout for me too. The first 30 minutes are the worst and then it seems like you get "warmed up" and it starts feeling easier somehow. That’s what you do, I used to just drive my ATV back-and-forth over it until it got mash down enough to be below the grass. You’re right, they need something to mount to your tractor. With three or four of those drums position vertically so you don’t have to drive back-and-forth sideways you just drive up and down the length of the driveway and kick everything out to one side. Maybe a longer drum and a 45° angle It was a problem in my yard because my neighbors driveway with gravel and it also turned in our yard was the outside corner so every time they would drive down it would flip a few rocks into our yard and if anybody went up or down there fast it would kick a lot and I went through a lot of beat up mower blades because of it

I found it with the metal detector (everything was still covered with snow at the time) and used some wider washers and a heavier R clip cotter pin. I think the original ones are a little too soft/thin. Good job on the gravel cleanup. I’m not looking forward to doing that. No 50 degree weather here yet.

That's quite the helper kitty cat you have there Tim . She even knows how to drive your gator it appears ! LOL! We always had barn cats that would follow us around on the farm up here in Michigan . I miss those days growing up when life was much simpler . Nice video .

Tim. I have the same attachment from Stihl, except mine is mounted on the "tiller" combo base from Stihl. Works a lot better, as it is the same pressure/force as when using the tiller (which has the adjustable guide wheels). Give that a try.

You can also loosen the bolts on the end of the shaft, rotate the gear box on the end of the shaft, and it changes the rotation of the flapper wheel. It then pulls instead of push. You may have to remove the guard, and some rocks will hit you, but it is less effort to drag it backwards

Turn the head around 180⁰ so it runs the other way. You just pull it. You can literally operate it one handed and standing up straight. You never have to lift it... you just pull it backward, then let it "walk" forward - again, never lifting. No wheels or anything needed. It pulls (with the drum turning) literally with about the resistance of a leaf rake. Another thing, if you have long strips, just pull it backward lengthwise, slightly angled, sort of in a plow fashion. Just walk back and forth with it angled accordingly. Another thing, these things work most efficiently at about 1/4 to 1/3 throttle. Anything faster tends to buck stones back out the front. Please try it, and thank me later.

People flip the gearbox to turn the paddles backwards. Then you pull the broom. Makes the work easier.

Works pretty swell Tim.. I wanna saw iv seen a very similar tractor attachment that worked hydraulically before but can’t remember what it’s called. I’m sure you could use a front broom too but it wouldn’t be as nice on the lawn that’s for sure.

Buy the Stihl Combi Bristle Brush. Works as well as the rubber peddles and much lighter to handle.

Tim that Stihl would be awesome for cleaning off the stumps when you grind them. So you can keep sight of the stump.

I just use my big Husky back pack blower and blow the rocks back of the grass...works great. Short of that a pto sweeper for the tractor would be the ticket for big spaces then blow the organic material off the drive when it dries out

Tim, I have this Stihl paddle sweep for the heavier gas fa131 trimmers... both loop handle and bike-handle models, like you said, it will do the job but it’s tough on you. I don’t think the balance will help you, it just ends up making the whole thing heavier and tougher to hang onto. I’ve abandoned trying to use it to clean up my 1300’ gravel drive. I have very steep slopes on either side of a big part of my drive, so unfortunately I can’t get something like a power broom on a bigger machine out there either.

Have youu seen a Broom attachment for a skidloader or in your case The Ventrac a Broom on the front of either of these does the same thing just have to be gentle. Our city where I live goes around town in the spring and runs the Bobcat with Broom to sweep where snow removal had displaced the rock into peoples lawns in parts of town where we still have gravel roads.
