Great info! After years of striving to find the very best setup for my longbow, I decided to simply fletch my cedar shafts with fletching that always corrected flight immediately after it passes the riser. I now "straight fletch" (no offset or helical) with full height feathers (not cut or squared off) thereby having the wing of fletching to cause arrow spin. FWIW. >>>>---------->

Thanks for putting this out there. There's alot of people that have little woodsmanship skills. I used to file sharpen the green Zwickey broadheads. But I've been running the grinder in reverse with a diamond & paper wheel since I have my swept 3 blade Valkyrie heads. However I recently bought a pack 175 3 blade non-vented Woodsman Elite heads. Got them for a friend so he'll be able to take his 1st deer this year. They have a lifetime warranty & r so easy to get sharp. Like the Teflon cover too. 😅😅

I agree with you as well. Out of my 44 to 46 lbs bow I like my 500 spine arrow cut 31 inches 200 gr up front 480 grains total arrow weight. I tried a longer 350 spine 32.25 long 220 up front 515 total weight. Like the speed of the 500 spine and point on,, 30 yards or 25 yards with most of my bows with roughly the same draw weight . I went up to 540 grain but my gaps suffered also if I did collapse yes the drop of the arrow magnified... Most bows 5/8th nock hight some other bows like 3/8ths. Great observation you have!!!! My light set up I still pass through deer..

Agree with you I like to hold & pull thru the shot. I can handle up to 48 for hunting but nothing heavier. With that said, shooting lower poundage should send ya in search of a bow with performance & forgiveness. For this reason I shoot a Bigfoot Sasquatch special. It’s smooth & rips an arrow! Search & find the right bow for you! If I could share a tip with you that helped tighten my release from a Jim Ploen video. At Anchor snuggle your release hand into your face. This will really seat it in your mind & ensure it stays tight along face & neck till conclusion. It’s simple & works well!

Very good points I happy to agree I shoot 45 # @28 my actual draw length I shoot Gold tip 400s 150 grain point total arrow wt. 510 gr. SILVERTIP recurve bow hits where I'm looking out to 25 yards penetration is good!!

Great information here. Just like you I like keeping things simple. I shoot uncut GT 500. Too simple just change point weight till I find the best arrow flight. Fine tune brace height and Nick done. Great Job.

Start my tuning after I take my time building arrows in January & February. Start tuning them to the Recurve setups I have. One thing I do in the spring is get up in a 🌳 with my 3D targets below me. Forgiveness to me is putting the target close within 15 yards. Usually @ an angle cuz deer will seldom be totally broadside. Set up the target so there's a branch halfway between myself & the target. The goal is to hit the branch & see where u hit the target. Ive had field points hit branches & hit the 9 or 10 ring. On those shots the branch drops to the ground about the time the arrow enters the target. Guys have to remember that your arrow needs time to recover & hitting a twig 4 feet from the target isnt ideal.

If you don't have 2 nocks and shooting 3 under it will make you have nock high . Also if you have a lot of overhang on your arrows it will give you nock high.

I always run a Double nocks. As far as the arrow hanging over these are cut 29. Definitely some hanging over as myndraw length is only 26.5 .

I too struggled with nock high on my current hunting setup. I did find a cure that I don't like but it works. I just happened to have a few Bear Weather Rests and decided to put one on. From then on, I've had perfect arrow flight; absolutely no nock high issues. As I said, I'd rather shoot off the shelf but sometimes ya gotta go with what works. I had the same issue with my Bob Lee and two Bear bows. All now shooting perfectly. If you give that a try, I'd love to hear about the results.

Well I don't bowhunt as it's illegal where I live. However I have a rig setup for 3D and I concur with Paul on the forgivness on account of combo of draw weight and arrow. I am currently shooting 28# limbs on a 23" riser, my draw is approx 30". I haven't weight it but my guestimate is that I have around 34-36# on my fingers. My concept as far as arrows go is to have the lightest shaft possible so that I can use a fairly light point and still have a decent FOC. My arrow config is a 32" 600 spine DK bow factory Tyrfing shaft, total weight 265 grns w 80 grn point, pin nock system and three fletch 3" tradvanes. PO is 30 m and my total dispersion between 5-30 m with the same hold is about 7". I shot yesterday indoor rounds 20 yds testing different arrows and found that I got the highest scores with this light setup compared to my nijora bark arrows 33" 500 spine w 275-155 grn points w 3x4" feathers.

Pretty quiet with 1/2" positive tiller shooting 3 fingers under. Does the bow jump or vibrate alot upon release?

Hi Paul, I just discovered your You tube channel, and immediately subscribed. I’m just now working through your videos. Excellent content, and I appreciate your practical straight forward style of teaching. Good job. I recently got back into trad archery with my Black Widow recurve. I had to take a break due to having heart surgery earlier this year and getting three stints. But I’m on the mend. God is good. I had to downsize from 53lb draw to 40lb draw. Do you prefer 400 or 500 spine for 40lb. @ 29” draw? My wife and I are relocating from Texas to SE Ohio here in the near future. I hope there are some good 3D tournaments there. Also looking forward to going to ETAR in 2024. I hope you are still planning on producing great videos. God Bless.

I really appreciate the support. I to had heart surgery in 2020. I'm doing fine and shooting strong. If you are pulling 40 pounds @ your 29 inch draw you could probably get away with either cut 500's or full length 400's with more point weight. I live in SE Ohio myself and there is ample opportunity to shoot 3d. A different place every weekend if you wanted too!

Spines to high but bows performance and a great release is covering it up one way or other.

Do broadheads fly good with the arrows not bareshaft tuned? Love your videos. I always learn something.
@pitbullman4111
@pitbullman4111 Жыл бұрын
The thing to remember broadheads are like feathers just on the front of the arrow. So depending how far off the bareshafts are, it may fly and hit ok or be way off.

Hey Paul, I watched your vid on how to make flu flu’s and I’m going to give it a try. I was wondering if it matters if the full turkey feather is right wing or left wing? Doesn’t seem like it would matter but the ones I’m looking at are left wing. Thanks a lot for that vid by the way!

At what GPP or FOC% have you found this to be true?
@pitbullman4111
@pitbullman4111 4 ай бұрын
It's dependant on the overall draw weight. The heavier the bow the heavier the arrow you can shoot and get a flat shooting setup.

This is off topic, but have you ever randomly started having your ring finger dragging across the string??? Same bow same tab nothing has changed. It’s driving me crazy.

It sounds like your letting your fingers collapse until you actually let the string go. Try a little deeper hook

I’m having nock high issues that I can’t seem to figure out. I’m fairly experienced and believe I have good form. I’ve been trying to get an answer for awhile now. Is it possible to email you with specifics?

I messed a little more with it yesterday and moved nock height to 1inch above center. Then dropped my brace 1/4 inch and it seemed to clean up alot better!

I was running 3/8 nock height with 1/8 negative tiller for few months...thought it was good till shot with wet feathers. Arrows flew erratic, went up to 5/8 👀 flew laser straight, bare shaft flew good too. Bow got quieter as well. Don't be hesitant to tinker around.

@billcharlene1450 it's funny you post this. The day after the video post I couldn't help but to keep trying to figure it out. I raised my nocks to 1in above center and lowered my braced 1/4 and it cleaned up alot!
