Cracking vid. Doing my loft next year and the roof looks the exact same. Might be a silly question but Are the floor timbers sat on the wall or tide into the roof timbers?

Hello this may seem like a stupid question so sorry if it is. How it the main beam fixed. Is it into the wall or resting on the ceiling joists and if so is there a supporting wall underneath. Love all your videos, you guys absolutely smash it.

@kevindavey9128

Why did you insulate between the floor joists I would have thought no insulation would have allowed the heat to help heat the space. Will you be installing metal joists and rafters as you did in your old job going forward, that looked a great system

Wonderful work Rob! Is the additional support added by screwing a new timber to the rafters enough to stop them from sagging, or is the stud wall adding support as well?

Can you explain how removal of the original lateral ties, then doubling up the joists restores lateral restraint?
@builditwithrob
@builditwithrob 7 ай бұрын
Hello I’m sorry I can’t I don’t fully understand the stresses and loads, I follow the engineers plans and calcs
@Elfin4
@Elfin4 7 ай бұрын
@@builditwithrob I will try and explain my concerns - If you remove the horizontal tie beam/member then double up the common rafters but don't reintroduce some bracing to stop the roof spreading the loads are still being transferred down towards the eaves which may start to spread outwards if the rafters are not braced laterally across the width of the roof which was the purpose of the original tie beams. I just don't understand how doubling up the common rafters does anything unless you want to increase the loads by putting heavier tiles on the roof. Perhaps you can get your engineer to comment here or if there are any engineers who can tell us what's going on and how this works from a structural view as I would really like to understand.
