Today, we're taking out our friends Jeep Gladiator Mojave for the first time. Of course we had to take it where we took our Chevy Colorado ZR2 for it's first dirt run. It made us wonder, which of these trail titans is truly better...well, let's find out!

Got the Mojave with 2.5 lift and 37"KO2 (actual measurement 35.5 diam). In real world, I have 16.5 clearance, which, if calculated right, is about 28.5° breakover and works pretty well. I've also invested $4k in rescue equipement and I aint afraid to use it! The confidence that I can get myself out of anything I get stuck in helps a lot.

This is our friends gladiator, and he plans on keeping it stock for a while. We'll be adding accessories for him as a thank you for letting us borrow it. We have several more trails in it coming up soon.

the Mojave is a desert truck, not a rock truck like the Rubicon. either way i take the jeep

That was a comparison ? And ruled the ZR2 the winner because of breakover angle, or was this just a test of breakover angle ?. What about approach ? departure ? etc

We have other reasons for declaring the ZR2 the winner. We have experience with a 21 mojave and had it in several situations that the zr2 just does better. Just our opinion.

Achilles hill for the Jeep Gladiator is two things... breakover angle and it's really ugly.

I think a better comparison with the Mojave would have been something high speed, that's really what it's designed for. It'll rock crawl too, it's still got to approximately a 55:1 crawl ratio, which is better than most other things in its class except for the Rubicon. Nice thing about them is you can get a AEV lift for $600 specifically for the Mojave and run 37-in tires. If you ARE considering the Gladiator, they're on big-time discounts right now, you can pick up a Rubicon in the low 40s if you shop right. And today though, we could agree that both vehicles are better than the comparable Toyota.

Neither are rock crawlers. I don’t even think they took the same lines. If you want to rock crawl a stock vehicle get a wrangler rubicon or a bronco raptor

It is the same line, just a different camera angle. 90k for a Bronco raptor is too expensive. You can get 2 zr2s for that price. Our friend got 25% off the msrp of his gladiator, making it way less than a wrangler. They may not be what everyone considers rock crawlers, but they hold their own pretty well.

A stock jeep against a lifted zr2 give them both the same ground clearance and the same tire size

Our ZR2 is 100% stock. We have a 30.6" tire and no lift. The Mojave is stock, which has 1" lift over a rubicon and has 33" tires from the factory.

Nothing against jeep but the ZR2 I think is more capable and just looks better all around

We agree! The ZR2 has done everything we've asked of it without mods. It is fun to play with a Jeep though!

@@legendarytrails the only mod I added to my ZR2 is shock skids and a bed topper and have not had any issues! Have not hit trails like yours but been on some muddy trails and hills and no issues

We have used it pretty hard. We'd love to do bigger tires someday, but really, that's a wishlist item for when they wear out.

not equal simply because the mojave, as good as it is, doess not have a front locker.

Lockers were not used in this test so they are as equal as you can get since the majave had a 1" lift over the rubicon.

Not really a fair comparison. The zr2 has a front locker where as the mojave does not. A JT rubicon would have been a much more accurate comparison.(although I do believe in stock for the Zr2 would still come out on top)

The Mojave has a 1" lift over the Rubicon making it a little more fair for this comparison. No lockers were used on either vehicle for this test. ZR2 has a better breakover.

Key word "lifted". These are both stock to stock configurations.

@@legendarytrails I don’t know anyone with a stock zr2 personally. They’re all lifted on bigger tires as well they just can’t fit 37’s like the Mojave can stock.
