I was lucky that I didn't grow up in an uber religious household or an area where religion was part of the fabric. My transition to atheism was easy. And it's been further cemented with my "addiction" to backpacking. So seeing Alex Honnold (1:21) in this was an extra treat. While I'm not a climber, I have to imagine that tapping in to the reality of nature, which is ALWAYS perfect when left undisturbed, is something he relates to as well.

What a great movie. This explains my persepctive of life perfectly. Everything is a wonder and of course I want to do good for others! Chris did a fantastic job on this film and I could not be more happy with the result. I would say that if there is anyone out there that feels alone and has doubts, watch this film. You will feel good and realize you are not alone!

I hated to miss your showing tonight. Got caught at work. Can you let us know if you are having another showing in Houston? I would sure like to see it, because I want to support you and let you know that it is meaningful what you are doing with this movie.

I just watched the whole movie. Great job! Really good - full of appealing, photogenic people who really got your message across. Oh, and for anyone who has yet to see it, make sure you watch all the way to the end, so you can see the bloopers, too. :)

I want, to be straight forward, honest, without pretense. After reading my comment if any of my fellow atheists have idea's, thoughts, or perspectives they think will help me I'd be eternally grateful. Like many of you, I was raised with religious views that left me with doubts, concerns, fears. These feelings came to fruition as I entered my young adult life, in time, these things I was concerned over finally had to be answered. So my search began,. After much consultation, consideration, fairness, reason, contemplation I knew the truth. It had all been a tragic lie that would leave me scared for the rest of my life. I was angry, I wanted to strike out at those who had done this to me. After years of recovering, forgiving, leaving out or being left behind because of my views I found a modicum of peace. The last thing I still cannot overcome is a sense of dread, waste, depression, the loss not of the lies or the god I thought I knew but from an eternity to enjoy all the wondrous things in this universe. Like you I find exhilaration in the cosmos, awe, wonder, excitement, inspiration, beauty, chaos and a million other words to describe the indescribable. These feelings evoked by the universe also leave me with a feeling of great sadness. I won't get to see how all this turns out, no matter how I try I'll never learn all that man has learned up to this point much less what the generations to come will know. I don't want to leave this place, ever I'd imagine it was thoughts along this line that lead man to create a god, to begin with, so he wouldn't be sad at the eventual loss. If you have anything to offer to assist me, Please share or message me. Marcus Anton

I can remember Hitch explaining it as such: "We are told not only that the party must end, but that we must leave and the party is to go on without us!" Religion answers this unpleasant reality by comforting the desperate party-goer as he/she is being escorted away: "This party is only ending so that a much larger, longer, and better party may take place!" As a senior in high school, I can only say that I see so much gratification in skepticism, doubt, and uncertainty. I attended (and am about to graduate) from fundamentalist Christian schools since preschool, and it was only within the past year that I was dragged out of that intellectual black hole. I, too, felt the waves of confusion, betrayal, and anger you describe, and the much more empathetic view of religion that follows. But for me, the mere fact that I am lucky enough to live, and live with relative truth, is worth the admission that I too, just like every other person in history, must bid good riddance to the party. Just as the atoms in my body were formed in the stars, so they will return to the stars. Who knows what the future holds for the atoms of my body! Being sad is alright, but I think there is utility in focusing on the life that we do get, rather than the life religion promised us, but which we will not receive.

Well said. I'll ponder on the points you've made here. The willingness you've shown to take the time to respond says much about the kind of person you are. These words of reassurance are well received.

I too am prone to feeling sad about the ending. Interestingly, I think many peaople dont feel this way simply because of their brains chemistry. Fuck. I wanted to compose some clever answer, but it is true - aging/dying/injuries ... it all sucks :D enjoy life till you can, love people and live in harmony.
