For the last several months we have been camping in our 2022 Viking 9.0TD-V teardrop camper. This is a small, lightweight camper that is easily pulled with our Jeep. But...that comes with compromise on size and luxury. So can camping in a tiny trailer with two humans and three dogs be done comfortably? For us the answer is yes!

Thank you for your honest and real comments about using the trailer. And, you showed it with mud on the outside and stuff on the inside rather than perfectly washed and empty. There aren't many videos of this trailer and it's travels online so you are contributing needed content. Will you do more? Your comments are helpful as I am likely to buy one of these in the next year.

There are always sacrifices… no galley kitchen like in a teardrop, but you can stand up in this one. That is a great feature. 👍

I completely agree. Being in an ambulance at work and not being able to fully stand up really makes me appreciate this. (Kirstie doesn’t have to worry about it quite as much with her height😜) Les

Thank you for this video. There are not many recent videos on this camper. I also have a 2022 Viking 9.0 purchased August 2023 brand new. It did not come with spare. I solo camp with my 16 pound Brussels Griffon. The camper is towed by my 2017 Ford edge with no problems. I do not intend to take off road. Like another reader the steps have caused knee issues. The distance between the steps are to steep for me, so i also am searching for better system. I plan to put piano hinge on passenger side board under bed for easier access. I would like to reroute the plumbing/wiring on driver side under bed to have more storage. The add a room is an asset for me. I really enjoy this camper, however i do have same cons as you. Please post more videos camping with your 9.0

Thank you for your feedback. We agree with you and the other comment that the steps aren’t as user friendly as possible. This was really noticeable when Kirstie was recovering from her broken ankle and torn meniscus. One of the things we did to help with that was to buy a collapsible step. It’s a perfect gap filler between the ground and the first step and it collapses flat to store next to the cooler when hit in use. I like your idea of piano hinge but with our trailer the board under the bed is all one piece. It’s funny how different trailers have small differences even though they’re the same year and model.

Enjoy your new trailer!! I’ve been traveling full time for two years now in my 10’ Kodiak Stealth teardrop with my blue heeler Finley. We boondock more than 90% of the time and have invested in a solar/lithium setup with inverter to run many appliances. It has worked very well and we love having the freedom to explore out of the way places!!

That sounds amazing! We are still considering this step, but were quoted more than we’re wanted to pay at this time. Maybe down the road we’ll be upgrading this way.

Thank you so much for posting as I purchased a 2022 viking9.0 td this August. I agree with your pros and cons. Mine did not come with spare tire so will need to purchase one. I am a solo camper with small dog so fits us perfectly. I did install shelf above head of bed for storage. The steps have caused my knees great discomfort and I've never had knee problems before. So I am looking for solution. I enjoy add a room. Because there are lots of mosquitoes where I camp. I have clamped tarp to edge of vinyl top of add a room. But I am looking at other options as well. I look forward to seeing future camping adventures

Thanks for checking out the video. The shelf would be a nice addition for a little extra storage. As for the knees, we purchased a small folding step that we place on the ground so it’s not as large of a step for us. I’m glad the tarp covering the add a room works for you. We did try that, but the rain pooled on top and collapsed the room every night. We are picking up an awning from Facebook market this week to attach to the Jeep, so that will give us some rain/sun protection (not so much for the🦟).

Hi there. Great video and so helpful! I just bought the same camper this week and can’t wait to take it out with my Blue Heeler Bruce. Question on the Bluetooth speakers: unless I’m completely missing it, I’m not seeing a Bluetooth stereo on the inside of the camper. How do you get the speakers to work? Edit: Ope, scratch that. Found the speakers with my phone’s Bluetooth and the password from my paperwork 🤦‍♀️ Would also love to see more of your tarp setup. Thanks!

Hello. Thanks for checking out the video. I’m glad you were able to solve the speaker issue. To be honest, I had to ask the Facebook group how to do it. (If you haven’t joined the group [Viking 9.0 and 12.0 TD trailers from Coachman], I recommend it. There’s lots of pointers and ideas that are shared there.) We’ll make sure we show our tarp setup when we start hitting some sites again. To summarize it, I have sections of pre-cut rope that I tied carabiners to one end to connect to the tarp and then leave the other side free to tie around trees. I hope you and Bruce enjoy the trailer as much as we do.

We did look at that, but the quote we were given was more than we wanted to pay. We picked up a small generator that looks like it will do the trick for us. Thanks for checking out the video.

We’re glad you enjoyed it! We noticed, when we were looking at purchasing the trailer initially, there were not many videos (other than sales reps trying to sell them😆). That’s one of the reasons we decided to make this video as it’s something we would have appreciated watching before the purchase. The door width is just under 22”.

We picked up a small 3500 with a 30 amp plug from Amazon. Although we’ve only tried it in the driveway so far, it looks like it may work for us.

Does the trailer feel heavy on the back of the jeep or does the jeep take it well ? I was looking at the OGT Expeditions 3.0 trailer but this one is more budget friendly... and you can stand up in it. Nice video and review.

Thank you for checking out the video and for your feedback. The Jeep didn’t have any great issues hauling it. It does have an automation 8 speed transmission and often stays in lower gears, which really affects the mileage. The first time we took the trailer to Mount Carlton I didn’t pay attention to this and the mileage was 18L/100km. Since then, I switch it over to the speed shift when hauling the trailer. This gives me more control of the gears and allows me to stay in the higher gears. The fact the Wrangler has a factory tow package is a nice bonus too.

Here's a question: do you find the insects or bugs are able to get in through cracks? How about water when it rains? I'm concerned about where the pop up portion hinges to the roof. (any water infiltration there?) Thanks.
@cattledogsandco
@cattledogsandco 4 ай бұрын
Hello. We have not had any problems with water during the first season we used it so far. In the colder nights, there’s some condensation on the hinges and windows. The bugs do get in, through the door, but we haven’t noticed any gaps/cracks that would be big enough for them to get through.

When the trailer is closed how high is it to the top of the roof mounted A/C? The specs list it as 6'5" but with the rack and A/C it looks higher. I have a 7' garage door height.

Hello. I measured the trailer in our driveway and the trailer itself is 6’6”. With the air conditioner, it adds a foot at 7’6”.

I use solid tablets instead of the stinky blue liquid in my portable toilet. No issues in many years and no extra smells. I drop in one tablet when adding some water after dumping the toilet. Sad to hear the big door must go on the bed. Issues putting away a wet door? Wrap it in a tarp?
@cattledogsandco
@cattledogsandco 2 ай бұрын
We hadn’t heard of the tablets, but may have to look into that. There hasn’t been a problem putting the door away wet. It’s usually under a tarp when in place on the trailer and when we take it down we wrap it in waterproof dog blankets from Wilderdog. This not only protects the bed from the water but it protects the walls from the corners of the door. We realized the corners should be covered after our first time out with and the door scratched the wall while in transport.

Yes, we knew that. On the drivers side, the plumbing takes up the space on ours, but the passenger side gives us different access point of the outside compartment.

I have a 2024 Subaru CrossTrek Wilderness edition rated at 3,500 pounds towing. Does anyone have experience with this as a tow vehicle?
@cattledogsandco
@cattledogsandco Ай бұрын
Hello, No, the Jeep has no issues hauling the trailer. It’s rated for the same weight capacity as your Subaru. Having said that, on hills you may want to make sure it doesn’t stay in too low of a gear. I often switch to the manual feature to make sure it’s not revving too high (and burning too much fuel).

Trailer is very tongue heavy. That spare needs to mounted on the rear somehow to balance out the weight.
@cattledogsandco
@cattledogsandco 2 ай бұрын
That’s the problem with small trailers. There’s not much room in the rear without having to move it every time we set up camp. We are always open to suggestions though.
