In this video I transform the tiny cabin of my micro sailing boat into a livable space. And also add some electrics to charge my camera equipment and phone.

You need to add in a fuse or a breaker as close to the battery as practical for any circuit you run in your boat like that 12 volt plug in without one if you get a direct shorted situation it will glow redhot and melt the wire insulation and possibly ignite your boat itself on fire. Yes the nice thing about that Minnkota battery box is it is already wired with a circuit protection breaker also so it saves you a step. Most marine installs have a battery selector or cutoff switch installed right close to the battery bank then heavy cables lead to a near by bussbar or marine style breaker box then all the circuitry gets fed out to what ever you need from there this way in a electrical smell or wires smoking situation you can rapidly disconnect the battery from all the circuits before it gets to hot to create further damage and you can do that at the battery disconnect cutoff switch then you can take your time to find out which circuit was causing the short circuit

Thanks for looking out and pointing that out, I actually purchased an inline fuse for that that’s going in very soon. But for now it’s just disconnected to be safe.

My sailing mentor use to say "Big boat big problem, little boat little problem". You might want to research if you need a voltage regulator between the solar panel and the battery.

That’s so true! Thanks, the little panel has a charge controller/regulator built in on the underside of the panel, just can’t see it in the video, appreciate you looking out though!

Very cool little boat. Enjoy your 3 day voyage in your voyager 14. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the boat

Looking good mate. Awesome little boat. For lightweight wires like your solar, a hot glue gun will hold them in place too. A dab every 6 inches or so.

Thank you! That’s a great idea, I actually used that method when I used to build rc planes, works great.

Love what you are doing. I didn’t see you wire any fuses into your positive wires. If any of your appliances short circuit you could start a fire or best case it will discharge your battery to death.

It's a great/cute little boat. Doing some improvements to feel good onboard is a good start in your restoration project. Maybe you should consider adding a fuse before your 12V socket and a cabin LED light (with a fuse too of course). Does your boat have navigation lights? Be sure they are working fine before you leave. Safety is important. Enjoy your journey.

Thanks and I appreciate the suggestions, I totally forgot about putting a fuse inline, thanks! I do have some battery powered nav lights I clip on to the stays so I’m all good in that department.

Sweet Good job brother You have to use different filters for your mask One you have is for dust only! You had to buy NIOSH charcoal filters to work with paint a specialty indoors in such confined spaces Stay safe 👍

Hey thanks for pointing that out, thankfully that was all water base paint so it wasn’t too bad. But I’ll definitely pick some of those up! Appreciate it😃

Will the 12v outlet sitting that low in the bilge be an issue when the bilge gets water in it?

Possibly, and after running it like that it tends to get caught on my feet and pull the charging chords out. Definitely going to relocate it.

Is there any kind of charge controller between the Solar Panel and the Battery? Solar Panels have around 18-20V, far to high for normal 12V-Batteries. You will destroy it in no time, and it will leak fumes (H2, highly flammable).

Yes there is a built in controller on the underside of the panel built in. I really appreciate you looking out!

Not sure that I would want my electrical running under the floor boards in the bilge.
