Hey guys FatBuddyCat here and today we are tackling the Factory Front Suspension Mod for the Trailmaster. This includes changing the fork oil, adding a preload spacer extension and all the steps necessary to obtain an improved compression rate that will be more agreeable for adults and slightly aggressive riders.

I laughed when it was 100 ml. That's around the amount that small dirt bikes of the 1970's used. As the years went on the tubes got bigger requiring more oil.

I hope so! It made a HUGE difference. I can throw the front end and wheelie through stuff now. I grew up riding rough trails and like to get my front up. As for turning I was diving the front and pulling the rear around where now I can plant the front and counter steer the rear better. I have a short ride video pov ride video done you'll notice how much smoother my transitions are.

@@fatbuddycat Good to know. I’m still having problems with disc brake on the 224 bike? After a bit of riding the brake just doesn’t work anymore. Not sure what’s going on. I may upgrade again to a dual piston to tame the 224 beast. I’m also researching a new brake rotor. That might also help.
@fatbuddycat
@fatbuddycat 2 жыл бұрын
@@DIYWilly Wowzers! That's a pretty simple design on that single piston brake too. Is it broken or just not strong enough?
@fatbuddycat
@fatbuddycat 2 жыл бұрын
@@DIYWilly you can step up to a higher level caliper but it's going to start getting expensive next. The MCP systems are supposed to be pretty good and there is Brembo. If you don't want mini bike results your going to have to start using motorcycle parts. The biggest hang up is spacing everything out and making the hubs work. Brakes and foot pegs are my least favorite thing to figure out.

I really changes my rc cars. They are much faster than my mini bike. The soft preload makes my bike a little too spongy. My Losi still can’t hit top speed safely but tuning really helped up top. 60 mph rc’s can have spectacular wrecks.
@fatbuddycat
@fatbuddycat 2 жыл бұрын
Hopefully I'll get to ride it today. This can be done with smaller forks too I believe. Only difference should be ml of fork oil and the spacer size. I studied a little bit and my general concensus is that everything thats done to a factory fork should be done in increments. I would try the 20wt fork oil and there is a motorcycle spring that can be swapped in as well.

What does the oil in these forks even do? There isnt a shock for the oil to flow through. And do you know if the hurricaine comes with the improved gps shock or the old one like in this video?
@fatbuddycat
@fatbuddycat 2 ай бұрын
Take the shocks apart and look at how they work. It's not a hydraulic piston, suspension works with a dampening and preload. The springs control how stiff the suspension is and the oil deals with the movement (compression and rebound). Hurricane just has a front brake on the tube, same suspension as the regular Trailmaster. GPS also didn't create the Hurricane, they just like to act exclusive.
@fatbuddycat
@fatbuddycat 2 ай бұрын
Worst part about Trailmaster is the frame and suspension geometry. They had issues with the gen1 (looked like a Warrior with rear suspension) frame cracking and tried to fix it with the engine mount rather than redesign the whole bike. The long shaft engine to line up the torque converter is pretty dumb too....as are the crazy cheap plastics, foot pegs and seat. Buncha crap.

@@fatbuddycat yeah I know they just get the Chinaman to make everything then sell it to us but people say good things about it and I want a full suspension mini bike. From your experience since you have a ton should I get the trail master or the Coleman rsv? Or are there better options even? Doing road and trail riding and light stunts nothing crazy

I try my best not to swear or go off on my frustrations. I've considered starting another channel that is less serious so I could be more natural but chances are I will offend a lot of people who think I'm slow. 😆
