Trailmater Offroad Recovery

Trailmater Offroad Recovery

2 жыл бұрын

We went into Kane Creek Trail from the top to help get a truck that was blocking the trail. From the top is the quickest way in, but it put us on the wrong side to pick it up. So we got creative to move it to a wide spot in the road so traffic could pass and we could get in front to pick it up. We carried it up to the parking lot below Hamburger Hill. The rain was coming in hard so we left it there and got out. Parts were ordered and showed up the next morning, me and Lilli went in and we repaired it so they could drive it out. I didn't get any videos of the repairs and we went out a different route then they did. So hopefully you all enjoy the video we did get. Thanks everyone for the support.

@21:35 That 'Holey Shit!' was said with feeling. That trail worries me every time we see it, but that moment took it a level today. I hope Rory has little Lilly walk through the risky sections. In climbing we refer to that sort of situation as 'exposure'. It might be a relatively easy move, but the consequences of getting it wrong might by serious. That moment today qualified I'd say.

What an amazing job! That rain made those trails treacherous so people need to be afraid. :) Thank you for sharing that its not always sunshine in Utah, and that everybody can get locked out of their cars. Maybe Rory should make a "build-series" where he produces and talks about custom tools that might be handy to do rescues in harsh environments. The Caliper-spacer is a good idea. And maybe some thing to "melt-together" a skid-plate-assembly, to use parts on the TrailMater. Maybe also something to compress the suspension on RockCrawlers, so it is easier to avoid rubbing the ground while towing the Crawler out along a trail. And thank you for putting dad and Lilli first, by dropping filming the next day :)

Oh, 'Mater breaks once in a while. But Rory can fix it, and still get him and the client out. Loved his explanation of why he runs leaf springs, on the video where he broke the driver's rear spring. He has the parts and tools to fix it good enough to drive out at a normal pace. Not so easy when coil-overs break.
@MrGaryGG48
@MrGaryGG48 Жыл бұрын
@@hondolane3125 In one of Rory's commentaries, he mentioned that he prefers his "over-load air bags" with leaf springs to coil-overs, because he always has a back up if one or the other breaks on a trail. The coil-overs are a good system on "over the road" vehicles but when you're out in the sticks they aren't durable enough.

I was literally just thinking about a box full of hockey pucks and a sawzaw could 'fullfill' any caliper size or shape. And if you carry some empty one and two liter bottles around and you cut a tube out of the bottle by removing the top and the bottom section if you have any type of heat source you could use that as a shrink tubing to go around whatever combination of pucks that you need to keep together in between the brake pads.

Nice recovery. Sometimes the best tool you have is the one between the ears, to come up with the best way out of a difficult situation. The front dig is one of the best helpers I've seen for turning around. New truck engineers don't think about what they are disabling when one part breaks & shutting off other stuff, just leaving people more disabled. Zip ties through the sockets to hold the pistons may be an idea, just my 2 cents

Rory while you are at cutting a piece of rotor, think about cutting a large steel wheel in half with d-rings and a piece or C-channel to make a compact skid for dragging out??? If you cannot cut a rotor weld together some old disc brake pads and paint a unique color. Time to add some other rescue tools, maybe make Matt a drag skid also, easier to make two at the same time.

I've heard your name before on Matt's channel but came over here after seeing the hand off of Robby's antique wrecker. If your videos are as good as this one I'm staying. Subscribed, liked and commented. Thanks for the entertainment. Jeff 🥴👍
