In this video, we talk about how it’s been owning an SPOD for 18 months and mention some of the criticism we have. Additionally, we install some new rockers from OTRATTW (CB Radio, Rocket Launcher, Zombie Lights, Passenger Eject, Grenade Launcher, Air Compressor).

I have had several folks ask me questions about my SPOD, so I thought I’d just go ahead and do a video review. The SPOD is a product I have been using for a long time and really believe in, so for the record this is not a sponsored video. So I’ll tell you what I like about SPOD and a couple criticisms about it.
First though, I wanted to show you a little upgrade I’m doing to it today.
I got these custom rockers from Over the river and through the woods or OTRATTW. These were about $5.50 each and they have dozens of ones to choose from. Pretty cool little switches and just allows you to add a little personalized customization to your switch panel. Standard ones, novelty ones like these and even some you can customize yourself.
These are there Contura V design and they have couple different rockers styles to choose from. They make them for the spod, but they also work with the Daystar switches and OTRATTW’s own switches.
Let me show you how easy these are to install.

Now while were in here let me just mention a couple things about the SPOD rocker panel. First, I love having it up here out of the way and 2nd installation was super easy, done in under an hour. Just have to remove some molding and run the wires through the firewall.
My only criticism is that I wish I would have got the double LED switch panel, because at night you can see the switches and I’m usually fumbling around to turn on the right switch on the trail. If I was to do it over again, I would absolutely get the dual LED switches. I did contact SPOD last year and they said for $95 I could send in my unit and they would upgrade it and send it back, which was totally cool. However, I just didn’t want to go through the hassle of removing it and not having access to my accessories for a couple weeks or worry about rewiring stuff, so I live with it.
They do make one that has a gauge pod in the center and a touch screen monitor version if that’s something you prefer, I personal like the standard manual switches myself.
The module under the hood:
I really love having a centralized place to plug in all the accessories with all the fuses and relays built in
Keeps me from running wires looms all over the place
Easy to change things out. You know I have changed my light setup a few times, plus all the light testing we have done, and this unit just simplifies everything
It wires up to the battery (and fuse box) super easy and it came with this custom installation bracket that it sits on.
They do have SPOD systems for Toyotas, older wrangler and have a couple universal options as well. I think I’ll be hooking one of these up to Project XJ Overland for sure, just undecided where to put it.
Cons
Dust in the unit, lots of trail dust comes in from under these holes
I just blow it out with compressed air from time to time
Not ordering the dual light switch
Price $400+
I initially thought that was a bit steep, but now having had it for so long, I can say it was a great investment
There is a video out there where you can actually make your own system if you really wanted to go the DIY route and there are some knock off brands out there now that are ½ the price, can’t speak for the quality. If you have different version system you are using, let us know in the comments how you like it?
So to wrap it up guys, I can say I recommend the SPOD. A very practical piece of gear and I’m satisfied with the quality.
