@@chefgav1 they are in my trail hardtail buyers guide. This was made before the new big trail
@trailtalkmtb66033 жыл бұрын
@@chefgav1 I rate Merida highly in Australia but else where in the world the value isnt as good. It's pretty comparable with polygon. The geo on the siskiu D and T are better than the one twenty and one forty. But merida hardtails and ebikes are killing it at the moment. Having worked at a Merida dealer I can say their warranty isnt anything special.
@trailtalkmtb66033 жыл бұрын
@@chefgav1 I'm very aware of the club price. Used to work at 99. However as this is a global buyers guide I cant use individual club or special prices on every bike as that would be very hard to find globally. So it's best to keep it retail or close to retail. The wholesaler in Australia gets a lot better rate than elsewhere on Merida.

@xx-----------xx8734 жыл бұрын
basically bikes that only dentists with their ridiculous salaries can afford
@Mikem04 жыл бұрын
They can say what they want - I'm on the opposite side of the salary spectrum of a dentist, I saved up and bought an expensive Santa Cruz bike. Their service is top notch, lifetime warranty, free bearings. I run the bike hard and it's performed flawlessly. Meanwhile my "S tier" 2018 YT Capra Comp was a nightmare. The damper on the Lyrik failed within 25 miles, had to send the bike back. Got the bike back 3 weeks later and the dropper post failed shortly after - that was taken care of quicker via getting a new post shipped to me. Later after a bunch of Facebook posts started popping up about the underside of the chainstays cracking on the aluminum Capras - sure enough mine was developing cracks from the holes. I ended up selling it to buy the SC (yes the new owner was made aware of the cracks.) YT's customer service was great and I love their bikes but I got a lemon of a bike.

oh there are enough people that use it

So I bought a used Santa Cruz blur carbon c for about $1000 less than the retail price and so far it’s been nice the only thing I’ve had to do was switch out the chain I also might have to replace a chain ring as I idiotically tried to fix a small problem and broke a tooth on it but it still has been working fine on that speed

Totally agree the list, I just bought a YT IZZO, it will be delivered in July and it is really the best value for the money. I live in the Santa Cruz area of CA and lots of riders have Santa Cruz bikes but it seems like it’s more of “keeping up with the Jones” and trying to fit in. I bought a Marin hawk hill 2 last year and it has been great, bought a 2018 for only $1500 which was just an incredible deal.

Don’t sleep on Norco people. I bought a shinobi about 7 years ago which is an all mountain full suspension 29er. Entry level but it’s been nothing but great. Gone through 3 sets of tires and only had to replace a derailleur and basic wear and tear on cables and brakes. My local trails get very tree rooty and this bike has stood up to the abuse. They’ve only improved since then and are priced low compared to other comparable models. Glad to see this company get an A. Recently, Giant is very bad for value/quality ratio in Europe. Only a basic Giant Talon 4 with xct forks, mechanical breaks and a tourney derailluer is 700 euros. While a Merida big nine 60 which has an altus 9x, rock shox coil spring, better drivetrain, hub, bottom bracket, hydraulic breaks(shimano), chain only costs 730 euros. I must add that the Giant Talon 4 which costs 700 euros is the new 2022 version and the Merida big nine 60 is the 2021 version. Giant talon 4 2022 still remained with basic components although they changed from shimano to microshift which is not a huge deal to make the 2021 version which had a cost of 470 euro and make it 700. Crazy.

If the Diamondback has less than ideal geometry, that should not allow it to be placed so high as a value, because geo matters as much as parts. Yeah that was some big news for them! Hopefully YT can support them with enough stock!

The things that never seem to get calculated in to the value equation, things like warranty, not just in claim but how well they stand behind it and how easy is it to use, also included things like Santa Cruz does lifetime pivot bearings, also support from your local shop, this value will vary depending on how much you can wrench on your own bike and if you already own the needed tools.

This is quite helpful when I buy my next bike. If you are going to do a part 2, can you also give your thoughts on Decathlon, Viathon and COOP?

Surprised to not see Intense on the list, what’s everyone’s opinions of the primer 29?

Great vid Phil but can we have pricing in AUD not US. It's an Australian channel let them do the conversion lol. Very informative.
@trailtalkmtb66034 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Completely understand. But it's a very tough decision to make. On one hand, I'm loyal to my Aussie subs who are very engaged in the channel but on the other hand 70% of my viewers are from the US and growing. I might end up just saying both from now on :/

Trail Talk MTB suggest utilising more transparent overlays as visual aids on your screen while it's just you talking. You could easily display aussie prices there without changing your dialogue.

I really appreciate you videos especially when you compare bike types, brands, and your overall take. Do you post any of these in a written "list" form on your site? I can't seem to find the links.

I kind of ditched the website a bit back as most people watch KZfaq but I might just post the scripts for the vids up there :)
