Like I said, in reality, the NY Central Hudson is built for speed and the UP Challenger is designed for strength.

*UP 844 assists a freight train while also pulling a passenger consist*

@@geminatrafalgar8978, so it's a mixed traffic locomotive. UP Challengers are designed for pulling heavy freight trains. NY Hudsons are designed for pulling passenger and express trains.

The Hudson is the grandfather. The Challenger is the grandchild. Mallard is the Challenger's pet duck. Flying Scotsman became a pilot so he will fly to America.

02:56 it’s a coal tender. The oil tender is completely closed where the coal should be.

Hey mate, a little knowledge bomb. Engines that have oil tenders actually burn oil, not coal. Both are coal burning engines

Well No. 3985 was converted to burn oil by the Union Pacific before it was taken out of service and replaced by No. 4014 Big Boy but the same was done and it was converted to burn oil was well.

The Dreyfus Hudson picks up water while it’s moving with a scoop under the tender to minimise stops, because it’s an express engine.

The up tender is a coal and water tender, and the Hudson tender is designed to have a larger coal load so it doesn’t have to stop and refuel

challenger (and other up steam restorations) have oil tenders with water tanks, older engines are coal with water tanks

Correction. That challenger is using a coal tender and not an oil tender. Also it uses a coal bunker and water tank in the tender. The coal bunker in the New York Central Hudson’s tender is bigger than that of the challenger, but with a smaller water tank, though the NYC had plenty of water scoops or track pans to resupply their locomotives with water on the move

If a tender is an oil tender, then there will be no coal in the tender, and there will be a cap where the coal load would normally be
