Train-spotting in the wonderful town of Mystic, Connecticut. A few Northeast Regional trains stop here a day, and all Acela Express trains pass through the station.
These clips span a couple days of cloudy and sunny weather, ranging from scorching heat to bare-able humidity. Sorry East Coast, but the West Coast has the best weather, I'm afraid.
A quick shoutout to the Amtrak conductor at 1:27; we had a lovely conversation while the train was stopped about his job experience, train-spotting and how the Red Sox are the best baseball team in the world.
Amtrak's Northeast Regional runs from Boston, MA (South Station) to Washington D.C. (Union Station), with major stops at New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore.
Acela Express runs alongside the Northeast Corridor and remains the fastest train in the U.S., making limited stops on its 6-hour journey from Boston to D.C.

Thank you! Our systems are indeed dissimilar, but I'm envious of European transit systems as a whole.

Bay Area Transit News you're welcome, may I ask, what makes you envious of the European railways?
@BayAreaTransitNews

Well, there are several reasons. For one, European intercity train services are vastly superior to America's in terms of frequency and speed. Many Amtrak routes only serve certain areas once, every day, each direction. European rail service is also much more extensive and widespread than American rail and can take you to thousands of destinations across the continent. Amtrak serves very limited service to many parts of the country, if at all. Of course, the density of cities and between cities is so much greater in Europe, so it makes more sense to build intercity rail options than here in America. Plus, roads in Europe are almost always much smaller or more compact than America's, and European cities were not designed for car transport. American cities were designed for automobiles in the 20th century, which is why innercity and intercity rail-based options are so limited in many cases. European cities' compact designs encouraged the construction and usage of urban rail, since driving is such a chore in most cases. Lastly, European governments actually bothered to invest in urban rail-based and intercity transit options, and we did not. The disparities between train service in America and train service in Europe is largely due to this, and it's a shame we never accomplished what European nations were able to do.

How come Amtrak don’t use the horn when they cross?
@jackslc01
@jackslc01 3 жыл бұрын
@William W. Campbell-Shepherd IX they should just in case someone has hearing problems or problems blindness and importantly have a dog service for anything cause this looks dangerous

The town has elected to have a "Quiet Crossing" here. Meaning the trains will ring the bell only and only use the horn if their is danger.

@@jackslc01 If someone has hearing problems they will see the flashing lights. And if they have vision problem they will hear the bells. Blind people don't wander out of the house and not know how to get around with vision impairment. Nobody has ever been struck at that crossing in the last 20+ years. It meets all federal standards. And if anyone is too close to the tracks, the trains will blow their horns.
