What is absolutely amazing is the Germany ticket, or Deutschland ticket by the German national railways DB or Deutsche Bahn. Its crazy what an amazing value this subscription service is. Just 49 Euro for an entire month of free travel through all of Germany, with the exception of IC and ICE trains, the long distance express ones. But when you are traveling you dont really need those. The RE or Regional Express trains also run between major cities, albeit a bit slower. And the great thing is, is that the ticket is also valid on city transport like the Berlin or Hamburg metro system. Plus you dont need to reserve anything, check in at stations or things like that. You just need the sub active in your DB app on your phone and thats it. You can also cancel the sub each month so there really are no strings attached. Germany is a huge country with an amazing variety of cities and landscapes, from the North Sea to the Alps. You can easily travel for weeks through Germany and never be bored. Also hotel prices are quite reasonable, cheaper than most in The Netherlands or France for example. Its even valid on international trains, for example the train from Venlo or Arnhem in The Netherlands to Dusseldorf, because they are operated as RE DB trains. When you compare this to the Interrail prices its really a no-brainer and great if you are new to traveling around by trains with a backpack because for 49 euros you dont really commit to anything. Also Eurostar, the former Thalys, between Amsterdam and Paris is becoming a bit of a nightmare. Very overcrowded and very overpriced because the Eurostar company doest really have any competition on this route for some reason. If you want a decent price on a decent time you really have to book weeks in advance.
