Having recently passed my part 2, its definitely advisable to learn the show me tell me questions off by heart or as close to as is possible. Not only does this show competence to the examiner and gets you off to a good start, it is also necessary when you are teaching students.

One of the best videos I have watched ( most are rubbish) If I can just make a couple of comments when I work with my pdis I talk them through why we don’t need the 6 point check when moving away when parked by the kerb as the danger from anyone behind will be when they reach the front of the vehicle the serious faults of not seeing road signs I tend to encourage commentary but a very enjoyable video👏👏👏👏👏
@GetWheelDriving
@GetWheelDriving 10 ай бұрын
Thank you Tony! Whereabouts are you based? Agree on 6 point check. Not necessary but old habits die hard. And commentary drive is essential for PDI’s but for some reason not all are ready at the start. Def no getting away from it though.

I failed my part 2 on a country road. Narrow road, hedge on both sides, sideroads, cyclist, national speed limit and all. I drove my Volvo which is a wide car, and very low seat position. I built up the speed to 40 mph as i considered, that was the safe speed, to be able to stop the car if anything, a cyclist, a living or dead animal, pothole, whatever comes up. A BMW X5 followed me very close. That was a serious fault as they expected me to get some progression which I failed. They said it could have been just a minor but i slowed the traffic down. I'm pretty sure, that bmw would have followed me the same at 100 mph too. What they expected me to do was a relative speeding, make me drive at a speed where it wasn't safe at all. I don't agree with that practice.

I’m sorry to hear that… Progress driving is a balancing act that can be tricky to get right but there is a balance. There must have been moments when the road was open, for a period of time, but you don’t pick up speed. Think of road widening and tightening examples in built up areas. You just need a bit of practise with your trainer in understanding when you should go and when you should reduce. You will get it next time for sure!
@gaborhertelendy

@GetWheelDriving Yes, there's another way, when I keep accelerate and slow down. It's not too economic compared to a constant speed. I had 2 examiners in the car. One watched me another watched him. I think my examiner was also under pressure.

Request: For educational purposes, I would like to see you get tested by an Ordit Instructor in an unfamiliar area. That way I can also learn from your own mistakes, as we all make mistakes this is normal. But would provide great educational value. Just a suggestion, thank you.

It’s good to see Laura take her PDI mock driving test and hopefully she can tackle her gremlins with better concentration. Would it be a better idea for your as an experienced ADI to take and drive the car similar to a Police Driving Instructor so that she can observe and focus on good driving habits and awareness? Overall keep on pushing with practice and growing confidence she will succeed. 😊
@GetWheelDriving

She did great… she made a couple of mistakes that all in all are very easy to fix. She’s in a good place at this stage. Yes demonstrating is always a good idea but right now she just needs to practise not missing signs mainly… Mocks always highlight the stuff we’re just not thinking about. Onwards and upwards😊

Question: During all the videos I’ve seen so far, I didn’t see a discussion regarding the use cruise control in dual carriageways. Are we allowed to use cruise control for eco safe driving purposes ? If we do not, I think I heard, do we get a minor ? I mean using it without the examiner asking the show me question. Please if you could confirm I would highly appreciate

I’m sorry to hear that. You WILL get it next time. The examiner is only marking you on 2 things. Control and observation. If you saw the other vehicles late - or didn’t respond appropriately then you will be marked down for that. It’s not possible to control the other traffic but you must respond accordingly. Remember you’re demonstrating how you will teach this later on. Be extra vigilant and make sure you demonstrate how to deal with other vehicles appropriately. If you have a trainer speak with them about it. Good luck for next time. Go get it done!

When pulling up to a junction do you have to use your hand break in a automatic like you would in a manual?
@GetWheelDriving
@GetWheelDriving Жыл бұрын
You don’t need to use a handbrake. You just must control the car. If you need the handbrake to control the car use it. But it’s not required.

WAs that parrarel parking 2 car lengths or was it more? Seems like it was a big gap but not sure if that gap is allowed?
@GetWheelDriving
@GetWheelDriving Жыл бұрын
Always try to get it done within the 2 car lengths - other factors are normally taken into consideration if more than 2 car lengths is used, like lack of control. Laura didn’t display any control issues at all and it wasn’t a nice spot to do the parallel park. Some allowances can be given. Don’t take that for granted though.

Hi, I've got my part 2 over in Nottingham in September. I think I read somewhere you have to alter your insurance for the test and put in an extra mirror. Could you confirm, please? And also I have dog guards up in my car to separate the boot and the back seats do I need to take them down. Many thanks
@GetWheelDriving
@GetWheelDriving 2 күн бұрын
Hi! You just need to make sure you are insured for the test. If you have a private hire vehicle (mini cab) you won’t be insured. A mirror is a very good idea yes, for the examiner and regarding the dog rail I have no clue. Not come across that before. If it’s obstructing your view I would take it down. Possibly I would take it down anyway.

Her mirrors may be Bang on point but she's then giving completely unnecessary signals which to me would suggest she's going through the motions of checking mirrors rather then checking them effectively

14:48 the DETAIL that allow you to keep the signal on, before move off, is bussy traffic? That someone might let you go. But it is a fail in normal/clear traffic because you force others to let you go?! Is this the major difference? But min 38:22 confused again 😅, it is possible that i didn't understood correctly, but you said NO?! As in, you are not allowed to put signal, and 1min latter it is good to let others known what you want to do 😢, or I'm confusing myself?! Apologies if that is the case. Is not a usual situation, but could happen.
@GetWheelDriving
@GetWheelDriving Жыл бұрын
There is no black or white answer here I’m afraid each situation is going to be different. When using your signal always consider risk v’s reward. Informing a steady flow of traffic that you need to move off warns vehicles further back and they could let you go. Timing of signal is also important put it on too soon, as a vehicle is about to pass, could startle them, especially if you consider more vulnerable road users like bikes, motor or otherwise. The take away is don’t go on auto pilot consider your actions.

if you stop video at 11:20 tp 11:25 you will see that Laura is waiting to turn right at the junction ..white car on her right indicated left , but was not turning yet and off she went ..should she not wait until the white car actully staty to turn?
@GetWheelDriving
@GetWheelDriving 8 ай бұрын
In normal circumstances I’d agree with you but if you watch it closely - she judges the distance well and the positioning of the white car makes it very clear it’s intention is to turn. The reason why you would usually wait for a vehicle to start it’s turn is because you can never be totally sure it is actually going to turn but in this example, because of the road layout, you could see it was going to turn. Every situation should be assessed individually. If you have doubt just wait. I hope that helps!
