Filming this video was one of our favorites days of filming llama life. Training llamas is awesome, but training young llamas is even better. It takes a great deal of time, patience and dedication to train llamas. However, training llamas is very rewarding and enjoyable. We hope you enjoy today's episode of llama life.
Here are a few steps we try to keep in mind when training llamas of all ages:
Step 1-Get your mind right- Make sure you are in the right mind set, you need to be in a good mental space. If you are upset, stressed out or discontent you will not get very far when training your llamas. It is okay to work with your animals when you are stressed or need a break as this can bring you a great deal of comfort. Training them on the other hand is a different story. So, prepare yourself so you have positive results and training session with your llamas.
Step 2-Set the stage- Do your best to make sure to train on days were there is not a ton of wind, dogs barking, people watching, noise going on around you, lots of commotion etc. You need to make sure your llama can pay attention to you vs. let animal instinct kick in and pay attention to its surroundings and the commotion around you.
Step 3- If its not working It’s you, not the llamas- Many times you try to get the llamas to do what you want, and often it just doesn’t work. Most likely you are communicating the wrong thing to them or asking them to do something contrary to what you really want them to do. Point is…. If its not working then change what you are doing and ask them to do it what you want in a different way.
