I'm doing the Ealing Half marathon at the end of September where I hope to go under 2 hrs. Love the new word seshhold. You mentioned in a previous video that you 'live with' or 'manage' or words to that effect, shin splints. Can you talk about that some more please? I find that as soon as I add in any intensity mine flare up.

Seshold. Great new word for the running lexicon. A really interesting walk through your training week. Great Vlog idea. One question. Why do you set your Strava to kilometres but then write '10 miles to start the week'? Do you think in miles, km or both? As old school we always think in miles and have to do some maths to follow you young uns 😀

Fascinating! 🤔 I am implementing small elements of the double threshold days. I started with using the bike first…so run and then bike later to get the same effect without the impact stress for now. Will then transition. But definitely can feel how the motor is changing quickly. Injury is the primary concern right now with this approach. Do you take any supplements for bone health etc?
@AwesomeJenkins

Great training Ben. Crazy mileage. I would never get close to that with little ones and work. Mind the body though. My question is, have you run any half marathons or similar distance events only two weeks apart? And if so how would you schedule your training for the two weeks in between to try and race your best. For example if 1st race was Sunday 28th August and you would like to race again 11th September. Two good races that I had hoped to tackle both.

With the your double threshold sessions, as the block goes on do you progress the intensity of the session eg: from 3:15 to 3:10 or increase the volume of reps as you feel like your lactate threshold or threshold “effort” has improved from these sessions? Great video as always Ben🙌🏻

Pretty amazing. I’m a slightly overweight runner who is trying to improve and break my personal goals, which are to break 23 mins for 5k, 48 mins for 10k and 1:50 for half marathon. My training is ramping up and I’m now doing 4 runs a week. 2X 10k, 1 longer run between 15-20K, plus 5k parkrun on a Saturday. That’s a lot for me with a busy life and two kids. My ten year old is a great little runner. He trains 6 days a week and is hoping for a 41 minute 10k in October in the Wirral 10k 😀

With regard to the "double threshold" days made popular by "the Norwegians". This method may well work for Jacob but at the recent European championships the other Norwegian runners hardly scorched the track! It may well be that Jacob is performing at the level he is not because of his specific training but because of other factors - inherited physiological characteristics, years of training since his early teens, wonderful support system etc. If this method was some sort of magical "silver bullet" all Norwegian runners would be world beaters.
@sarahwoods3
@sarahwoods3 Жыл бұрын
Completely agree that majority of Jacob's performance is due to inherited physiology and support system he has around him. I expect double threshold works for other people as it allows them to increase their volume of training without doing too many high intensity sessions or just long runs at plodding pace. So they are able to maintain some speed and volume with *potentially* less risk of injury= consistency. And consistency= improvement! Just my thoughts!
