This video is a glimpse into Dylan Bowman’s preparation for the 2021 Hardrock 100 Mile Endurance Run. Specifically we documented a three-day high volume block that was the crux of a several month long training cycle. Learn why these concentrated blocks might be good for your own ultra marathon training!

Dude please more of this! Really cool you got to see Timothy on the PCT! You should have checked his pack make sure he didn't load up with rocks when you carried it! 😂 Us Californians are so luck to have such a variety of terrain in our state to run on. Good luck on your attempt! I'm hyped seeing all this super serious competition heating up for this weekend!

Dylan….congrats on your tremendous 2021 Hardrock 100 performance! I know you don’t remember, but you and I had said hi (I had a black long hair German shepherd) as you were cruising down 2nd St in Ouray about 1 minute before you got to the aid station. My running days are over due to army injuries, but I can still get out and hike these routes. You truly are inspirational! And, I come to Palm Springs and Orange County for work. Thank you for sharing these work out areas. I would love to hike around there too, someday. CA has so many awesome places to see! I was walking my dog today up Camp Bird Rd to the Camp Bird Mine and back and was passed by folks running the Ouray 100. Best of luck on your next run!

Great stuff and love seeing footage of Timothy Olson! Question, I see a lot of runners using the Leki poles like you have. What is the advantage over those vs. the Black Diamond Carbon Z poles that others use? Thanks and can't wait to follow your journey at Hardrock. Best of luck!

The Leki poles are awesome. They just seem a little more well made than BD to me. Also, I love the glove feature where you can clip into the pole for leverage, rather than having a loop around your wrist.

Do you run these back to back days at 100 mile race effort? Or slightly faster for shorter distances to accumulate fatigue quicker?

Yes, three days in a row and all just endurance pace. Easy, long, time-on-feet effort.

Great vid. How far out from the target event do you typically do your training camp? Do you bookend it with lower volume the way you might a race?

Yep, definitely schedule some serious recovery afterwards. I took 3 days completely off the following week. I usually do it 3-4 weeks before my goal event.

While I can’t relate with a 3-day 97 mile training block, I can definitely relate with the wacky awkward walk into the lake! Usually how many weeks out before your race do you do this big chunk of training? Best of luck at Hardrock!
