when i was enlisted many years ago.. this song was the real main mortivation when we did our 24km route march in Tekong.. very patriotic.

Just finished my first ICT, and got extremely emotional after hearing this song again. Looking at the soldiers marching, racing to fall in, adjusting their equipment, I couldn’t help but say to myself ‘I’ve been there. I know how that feels like.’ It made me think of my friends, and enhanced the strong feeling of nostalgia that has enveloped me since I inpro-ed on Monday. After we ORD-ed in 2020, we kind of all went our separate ways, and the pandemic made it hard to meet new people, even in school. Being back in bunk with my friends in my unit was like returning to a second home. It was also an interesting reunion... various figures from different phases in our NS time returned to visit us, or took on new roles. I know NS doesn’t appeal to most. And I certainly wouldn’t sign on, but I’m very grateful for having an opportunity to go through it and make such irreplaceable friends.

On a side note, as a reminder to all. The SAF is an organisation built for National security. Its purpose is to defend our nation, and not wage wars. Comparing us to other militaries such as the US is unreasonable. As a conscript military, it is a very sucessful one. For us who've been through it, sometimes we may wonder if the two years is really enough to make us soldiers. But to me, i think when the time really comes, most of us will do all we can if necessary.

Wow. Brings back some memories. NS isn't a waste of time, it all depends on how you approach it and what you take away from it in the end. It is a... necessary evil, so to speak. (Although I wouldn't go back again if I had a choice.)

haha. as a recruit you do get access to your handphone, but only during admin time (usually evenings after training), and book out is usually friday evenings, book in sunday eevening. the only time you don't get to book out is confinement/ sign extra, or outfield. but they'll compensate you with off days if it's not due to confinement.

My senior whom from 2nd GDS (now disband) approximately 1995, as they were the first to don Khaki beret. (As in the past GDS use green beret with 7SIB backing along with S'pore crest & not to forget the stable belt which symbolize elitism) their training way much more difficult then us. From BMT, GAIT, GAC and finally another challenge before you can claim your LCP rank.

It's mostly the same during BMT. You book on weekend and be back camp before Monday morning. Afterwhich depending on where you're posted to you may either get to book out daily or you might have to stay in and book out only on Friday or Saturday afternoon.

I also tot that 24click was hell man, but it turns out quite well. Seeing your officers and sergent go thru the same thing as u certainly gives you motivation to carry on. Depends on your coy, u might get nice stuff from the oc like for me, I've got 100 plus during our 12click break! woots lol. But you will certainly have dat sense of achievement once you completed ur 24km, u'll see that ur sgts and pc will even party wif u :P Aniwae i was from Pegasus April 06 batch. Pegasus rox!!

I serve my NS as a SCDF Instructor. I ord in May 2007. I bet some of u guys would like to serve NS in SCDF due to their no confiment and high allowances.

not 1 day to finish lah(the 24km rout emarch)back then(tekong days)we started around 5am/6am or something....last breakfast in tekong was prawn noodles lol.coudln't eat prawn so ate noodles nia lol. lasted till around afternoon....when marching in parade square from distance could see all our relatives,etc...man i miss those days.my batch:25apr2002-24apr2004 now is still a reservist lol. anyways my units in tuas~

No political bullshit, brothers in arms that will be there with you that went through all with you. from BMTC School 2 Jaguar Coy! ORDed 2012. I miss the times i spent with my mates. 2 more cyclees to go and reservists is where we get to be like boys again without the worry for reality for 2 weeks. best times.
