Nothing more amazing than your dog learning to potty-on command!!!👍👍👍. Something so satisfying when they learn what you’re teaching them. 😊Taught mine to potty in the master bathroom shower on washable pads. It would tickle my funny bone to see them RUSHING down the bed ramp and disappear around the corner to use the facilities. Seemed so human like.😄😄😄 Miss those happy days. 💔 Seeing how you train makes me feel like I did most the potty training correctly. It really goes pretty quickly if you are determined to help them…and are very consistent in the beginning. Mocha is doing awesome!!!!👍👍👍. Thank you Carole!! Yes, consistency is soooo important in training - doing the same thing over and over until it is their habit. My dogs are trained in the same way yours are - if they get down at night they go potty in my bathroom - a shower is the perfect place for this! YES! Great job Carole! (And there was about 10 minutes of video footage for this one where I started with "Carole, this is for you! I am brining you along to see all the greenery and lush PA landscape." Then in the editing I realized that was not going to fit with the theme of this specific video so I had to cut it out ❤️ Just sharing the love 😍)

Very clear video showing how to train a dog to go potty on demand. I understand that we don’t want to force a male dog to not lift his leg…but if you were asking Mocha to go potty on demand where there was NOT a pole/fire hydrant…would he still lift his leg? I am curious about that. At home as a kid, we had a male that squatted all his life when going potty and a girl who lifted her leg 😂😂 it is true. Great job Mocha. Libertee was so cute watching/looking at you for the next command. The whole gang following the commands was amazing! Loved it! thanks Shawn!

Hi Julie! Setting a boy up for success includes taking him to potty spots where he can do his business - he can choose how he wants to go - if he wants to squat that is fine with me and if he prefers to lift his leg he is going to do that. Thank you for your comment.

What do you do if they “go potty” where you don’t want them to go?

Carry them to the spot where you do what them to go. If you have a young puppy it is great to take them every 30 mins to the spot where you want them to go. If they start to go before getting to the spot, pick them up and carry them. Thank you for asking!

Hi Shawn! I’m a new subscriber and love your channel! I was wondering what your thoughts were on the Merle color gene and if that’s a color trait you’d ever add to your breeding program?

Thank you for enjoying my channel! Welcome! I don't own any dogs that have the Merle gene. My understanding is it can be tricky to work with in breeding - never want to breed two dogs that have merel together as it can cause significant issues in puppies. This is what I've read and know from other breeders to be true: "dogs that carry two merle genes are prone to health problems like deafness, blindness, hearing loss, and skeletal defects." Thus I will stay away from that and I only want to breed dogs that are not going to pass on genetic problems to their puppies. Thank you for asking!

@@svccschnauzers Great info, thank you for sharing! I just welcomed home my 9 week old blue Merle toy schnauzer. She is out of Embark DNA & health tested parents. I’m totally fascinated by their color genetics and from watching your channel you seem passionate about them too! Love that! I don’t really have any interest in breeding my dog, I’m a dairy goat breeder so I’ll stick to midwifing outside with my livestock 😅 but I want to learn as much about her as possible! I’ll be receiving her Embark results soon and I’m excited to go over them! Your schnauzers are beautiful and I wish every dog breeder had your standards of care and training for their puppies!!

How old should you start this training. Mine is still squatting he is only 3 months. And poop every time I give him anything. So I’m concern about treat’s right now 😢.

Perhaps you are referring to her beard at a moment in this video? She may have just eaten something 😂 Her face and eyes look great to me so I am not sure I am seeing what you are referring to as "stressed." She seems very happy and playful eager to fetch her toys!
