A very good but brief morning spent at Kings Sutton on the Chiltern Mainline where we see plenty of services from Chiltern Railways, Cross Country and freight from Freightliner and GBRF.
The line through Kings Sutton had been around since the line was first constructed between 1845 and 1850, but there wasn't a station here until 1872. For the next nine years the station kept its standard format until 1891 when it became a junction station when the Banbury and Cheltenham Direct Railway via Chipping Norton was opened, this line had remained opened to passenger traffic until 1951 when British Rail removed the service because it was deemed as an economic loss as it cost more to run the service than it was generating income. The line remained open to freight traffic until 1964 when the line was permanently closed.
During the 1960's British Rail removed the old footbridge that initially linked the two platforms together and instead installed a new foot Crossing which is still there to this day, however you can no longer use it. It was in 2005 when a passenger was nearly struck on the crossing by a passing train, as a result of this Chiltern Railways brought in security staff to man the crossing, but this only lasted one year as a new footbridge was installed a year later. As a result of this the station then reverted back to an unstaffed halt.
Joining me today was my friend Sam who once again shall offer his 'unique' input into proceedings.
My next film is going to be from Didcot Parkway on the Great Western Mainline.
