Watch in 1080p. A few clips of a most enjoyable Good Friday morning spent at Leominster station, Herefordshire. The day was made all the more enjoyable by talking with Raoul, the Arriva Trains station chargeman, who gave me lots of info and turned out to be a keen railway enthusiast himself. Thanks, Raoul!
As to the clips, the opening shot of the NR HST was marred by the camcorder’s refusal to pan out as the train approached! At least it had slowed to inspect a level crossing just to the south. Also, the return working went by at considerable speed, leaving me no time to zoom in.
I was sweating when the delayed Manchester train threatened to block my view of the one remaining freight; luckily though, as it accelerated away from the station, the Margam-bound freight rolled into view - so you win some, you lose some - or vice-versa!
I have no interest in modern DMUs however one day the clips of them will be history... Will we look back at them with nostalgia?
The trains in the movie were as follows:
09:27 - 07:50 Crewe (LNWR site) to Derby (Network Rail) HST - on its outward leg
10:59 - 1V93 08:30 Llandudno to Cardiff Central
11:29 - 1V38 09:38 Manchester Piccadilly to Carmarthen
11:41 - (Due 11:20) 1W12 07:07 Milford Haven to Manchester Piccadilly
11:42 - 09:30 Dee Marsh to Margam T.C. Freight
12:57 - 07:50 Crewe (LNWR site) to Derby (Network Rail) HST - on its return leg
Filmed by Dave Waldren on a Panasonic SD900 camcorder with Rode Videomic Pro set to -20dB with high pass filter on. Velbon DV-7000 tripod. Edited in Sony Vegas HD Platinum 11, with a touch of sharpening, added saturation and reduced offset on each clip.
