Video: A snowy evening spotting trains at Reading station on the Great Western Main Line, full of disruption and cancellations. On what was the final day of the bulk of the 'Beast from the East' snowy weather, the worst of it had shifted towards the west so I decided to spot at Reading which was a safe enough distance away from London to not get stranded due to the disruption. Surprisingly, there was still lots of action from all ends of the station, with a limited but consistent amount of GWR services particularly with the Class 387s and HSTs. There was also a CrossCountry service and a few SWR services sparking and struggling a lot on the third rail in and out of the station.
TRAINS INCLUDED:
Great Western Railway (GWR) Class 43 HSTs & Class 165/166 Networker Turbos & Class 387 Electrostars, South Western Railway (SWR) Class 450 Desiros & Class 458/5 Junipers and a CrossCountry Class 221 Super Voyager.

You see, I stayed indoors the whole time lazy old me and you guys were out in the thick of it filming great clips like "Trains at Paignton 1.3.18 (by acw s/o or other) and Andy and Dandan Fisher's epic shot at Rotherham Masbrough of Oliver Cromwell and Galatea passing within minutes of each other I recommend those two if you haven't seen them already...

Great video of the snowy conditions, amazing how quickly it all went to heck. So the 800's weren't running? If they weren't that's another hit to them; the older HST's can withstand the weather :p
@CHOO-CHOOPlane
@CHOO-CHOOPlane 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much, and yes I agree about the HSTs. In fact the HST at 22:23 was meant to be an 800, so if they can't handle these snowy conditions I'd hate to see what it would be like with no HSTs in the future.

I was stuck at Bath for 3 hours on a hst set on 1/3/18. Nothing going anywhere, no buses, or taxis. I have to say, it really wasn’t a bad place to be, both engines running so nice and warm, plus free tea and coffee.... You can keep your modern shit that just fails in bad weather (poor sods in Weymouth the same day)

Must be terrible driving trains in the snow the stopping distance must start at least 2/3 miles from a station travelling at certain speeds
