Zeitz is a town in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The railway station is served by the lines Leipzig-Gera and Zeitz-Weißenfels. In 2022 this station was still equipped with many semaphore signals. This situation might be over soon, as there are plans to make the railway line Leipzig- Gera part of central Germany's suburban rail network, convert it from single to double track and probably electrify it later. First hydrogen or battery-electric driven multiple units could be used. This would offer the option to run trains through the city tunnel at Leipzig. The capacity of the tunnel, however is limited. So trains will probably have to use the upper platforms in Leipzig central station.
The platforms at tracks 1 to 4 are no longer open to the public. In the platform tunnel you can still guess where the access openings to the closed platforms have been. The main exit to the town was also closed in July, 2022. You had to use a side exit instead.
