A dull and wet morning, but plenty of interesting traction on view including : BR blue 31 on Freightliner; Railfreight livery 56077 on MGR, Railfreight Steel livery 37511; Class 47's; and Black Five 44932 with support coach - which we'll see plenty more of in Part 2! Filmed on a Saturday during Winter 1988.

Great shots and lovely sounds as always - and I noticed the unfortunate situation of too much going on at the same time with the 31 passing on the containers (I bet that would have sounded sweet when it lifted its train) and the 37 taking the strain departing at the same time - glorius sound from the 37

Very nice. Spent a couple of days at Derby in this era, always had a soft spot for the class 151s.

Me too; remember them on the Matlock line. Shame they were withdrawn when BR faced a DMU shortage around this time resorting to use of pairs of Class 20s on the Crewe, Skegness and Matlock trains. I've written a fanfiction where the 151s now run on the Norramby branch on the Island of Sodor; I've given them the names Derby and Matlock!

Geez, I remember those platform trailer things. You don't see them anymore. I remember at Bedford some guy would make a train out of them and attach them to an electric unit of sorts (like a forklift) and drive them round the station. The things that seemed so passive then.. lol.

Wow, look at that single 31 on a Freightliner 15 set for Leeds, that'd be about 800 tons, it's unbelievable what went on in the 1980s.

I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to capture this one for sure. You could get some very unusual workings back in the 1980's, but of course we didn't have the internet and mobile technology to help us back then!
