In the video, I'll show you the railway station of Luxembourg, explain the train and give some background on this train route and of course I'll show you some views from the train.

I'm living in Liège and gotta say I'm feeling very lucky for having this Guillemins rail station and this beautiful route to Luxembourg by IC train that I discovered this year. Nice video

Yes, your station is awesome. I have already finished the video of that station. I really didn't feel the need to make a video on the line Liège- Maastricht but it was the perfect excuse to include the station in one of my videos.

I live next to this railway line and I believe the luxembourgish government made pressure to the SNCB for them to change the old train running through this line because it hadn't any bicycle compartment like all the other train from the CFL. Indeed in Luxembourg one can travel by train with bicycle for free and I often use it. I must say it was always a pain with the old train. They even removed for a moment 8 seats but there was anyway three stairs to climb and a narrow corridor to get through so that it wasn't the perfect solution. This new Siemens train is much better for train + bicycle travel.

When it comes to bicycle carriage this is a bit better. But the interior of these trains is only made for short distances. The comfort level of the chairs isn't that good compared to the old trains. I do have another video on these train types (Siemens Disero HC) and those trains are much better. In the old situation the train sets where different every time, so they should at least use train sets with some extra space for bikes. You can have barrier free access trains with a higher comfort level as well (for example the CFL trains on this line).

I also live next to the line. And these new trains are pieces of SH*T. I also take the bike on the train quite a bit. And Desiro's are still SH*T. More SH*T for at least another 30 years if we have to live that long. Did I mention they are SH*T?

Nice trip report the Luxembourg station looks good also the public transport is free in the whole of Luxembourg (something that I absolutely MUST check out) the interior of the train is great if you have a lot of people because of the amount of seats and I really like the forest green valleys along the route

It surprises me that the line apparently isn't very profitable! Usually when i take it it's quite empty but i've seen it rather full on occasions as well. I guess Liège is just getting less and less relevant for luxembourg, but considering the state of the line to Bruxelles it seems the belgian government really isn't too interested in rail connections to luxembourg. On this route one thing I discovered recently is that there exists a 'euregio ticket' for 20 euros a day to take all buses and a few trains in the Aachen-Limburg-Liège area. Sadly this train is not included but all buses on the german part of belgium (all still province de Liège) all the way to the luxembourg border are included. So in theory with this ticket you can take buses all the way from the northern tip of Limburg to the southern tip of luxembourg for 20 euros a day. Probably not worth trying though.

The choice for the newer trains is because the final destination on the Belgium side has changed from Liers to Liège Guillemins and it is much more difficult to reach a marshalling yard. Speed is pretty low. Maximum allowed speed on the Luxembourg side of the track is 120 km/h, but on many parts the limit is 90 km/h. On the Belgium side the speed is topped at 100 km/h, again with many parts limited to 90 km/h.

Just took the train from Liege to Luxembourg 2 weeks back. Unfortunately most of the journey was in the night. But trains were good. And Luxembourg is also worth visiting :)

That's nice to hear. Luxembourg is a lovely city indeed. Since I have this channel I've been there 2 times without visiting the city, I really like to do this again. It has been a while since I've been there.

@@Trainviking Yup. I too started the journey from the Netherlands. From delft and a flixbus to antwerp. Then liege, Luxembourg and ended up staying in Thionville in France. No cheap hotels in lux. 😂 Surprising as an Indian how easy it is to cross multiple countries in a day here. :)

As of 13th December 2020, these trains now alternative every hour and now provide the screen information of stops in Luxembourg

Yes, gotta note that on weekends it's same as before (one train every two hours). Also the terminus in Belgium's advanced to Liege-Guillemins (so no more Liers - Herstal - Milmort stops), and Esneux station is added as new stop.

Helemaal mee eens. Alleen voor fietsers en mensen in een rolstoel heeft dit (deels) voordelen maar verder niets aan.

ik herinner me dat ik ooit eens tijdens een reis van leuven naar gent bijna 1 uur vertraging had. Uiteindelijk kwam er een vervang trein die duidelijk al jaren niet meer in gebruik was. Ik had nog nooit zo een trein gezien in belgie. Het was helemaal antiek, met een gangetje en apparte afsluitbare kamertjes (ook in 2de klasse). Ik herinner mij dat ik toen in een hokje met nog 3 anderen zat mooi afgesloten door een deur. Luxe als dat is nu niet meer te vinden spijtig genoeg haha

Over de investeringen (zijn nu nog steeds gaande overigens) Er wordt 4 miljard in infrastructuur geïnvesteerd in Luxemburg en de tramlijn is inmiddels af tussen de Europese commissie gebouwen en het station. Aan verdere uitbreiding wordt zo begreep ik, nog steeds gewerkt… Voordat het OV gratis werd was een enkele reis in de 2e klas en de bussen ongeacht de afstand 2 euro (kaartjes waren 2 uur geldig, genoeg tijd om het bijna hele land door te reizen van deur tot deur. Dat verschil kost de overheid 40 miljoen meer aan subsidie per jaar dan voor het gratis werd….

Toen ik er laatst was zag ik dat de tramlijn af was. Misschien ga ik on 2023 of 2024 weer een nieuwe video over deze lijn maken. Misschien treffen we dan ook wat andere treinen aan op deze route.

@@Trainviking Ah, I understand what you mean - Hmm...well, personally I feel like you already present fairly detailed information so I don't know what to suggest. However, one thing I've sometimes been curious to see is the meal offerings onboard (I've worked as an onboard service agent on a cross-country train in Canada and mostly in the dining car) - perhaps you can include more info on the dining cars when possible - even if it's just a shot of the menu if not a meal itself (I realize it's not always convenient in this matter though.)

In my opinion the video is great but I would prefer just 3 minutes at the start explaining the station rather than 7 like on this video, for me it's too much, it's better to see more the train than the station. Anyway I think this is your format and you do it how you like it so no problem about that

Vraagje: hoe lang duurt de tocht van Maastricht naar Luik? Deze film is heel duidelijk en mooi gemaakt.

Toffe video. Alleen snap ik niet waarom je het oude materieel beter vindt, de desiro's zijn gemaakt voor stoptreintrajecten zoals deze (een lange stoptrein, ook al is het volgens de Belgische spoormaatschappij een intercity) en de oude rijtuigen zijn beter in te zetten op échte Intercity-verbindingen. Treinstellen zijn hier (een korte trein) ook veel functioneler dan een locomotief met drie rijtuigen. Voor zover ik weet was keren, wat met een treinstel veel beter gaat, de reden om desiro's in te zetten. De oude samenstelling bevatte immers geen stuurstandsrijtuig.

Desiro is best OK... voor korte stoptreinritten. Voor langere ritten als deze is het comfort niet afdoende, geen tafeltjes, smalle en weinig comfortabele stoelen met weinig beenruimte, geen binnendeuren en daardoor luidruchtig, slechts één toilet... En een persoonlijke ergernis, zowat alle plaatsen zijn zo geplaatst dat er altijd wel iets in de weg zit om naar buiten te kijken, wat op zo'n mooi traject doodzonde is. Hun enige voordeel is dat ze snel kunnen keren, en snel kunnen optrekken. En airco hebben. Het is niet het platform dat me stoort, de Oostenrijkers rijden ook met Desiro's (die ze CityJet noemen), maar met meer comfort, ook al ontbreken ook daar binnendeuren. De NMBS heeft deze geconfigureerd om zoveel mogelijk reizigers mee te vervoeren, niet om dat zo comfortabel mogelijk te doen, capaciteit was hun enige bekommernis, en het is eraan te merken.

Naja zoals Barvdw ook al aangeeft. Het comfort is niet al te best. Iemand anders heeft ook een comment gegeven (die aan deze lijn woont) dat die dit juist beter vind ivm fietsen die makkelijker mee kunnen en gelijkvloers. Daar zit zeker wat in maar het comfortniveau voor een internationale intercity heeft dit absoluut niet. De stoptrein van Hengelo naar Bielefeld bijvoorbeeld is beduidend veel beter (komt ook een video van, aangezien ver reizen er voorlopig niet in zit). Bij alle voor en tegenarumemten kun je wat vinden maar ik denk dat gelijkvloerse, airco, makkelijk kop kunnen maken, etc. ook heel goed met ander materieel kan (bijvoorbeeld M6 wagon met fietsplek, een reguliere wagon en een stuurrijtuig, al denk ik dat dr M6 te hoog is voor deze route). Zoals ik in een andere comment begreep moest dit ook van de CFL dus is het een soort van noodgreep van de NMBS. Overigens wil ik binnenkort ook de M7 rijtuigen gaan reviewen.

Er rijden momenteel enkel gewone rijtuigen rond, m7-stuurrijtuigen met mindervaliden- en fietsenafdeling (en de beruchte 'gelijkvloerse instap' met een deur op 63 cm hoogte...) komen pas in de loop van 2021 in dienst. Op de gemotoriseerde stuurstandsrijtuigen (met 52 zitplaatsen) zal het nog langer wachten zijn (najaar 2021 ongeveer). Je kunt ze nu al gaan reviewen, maar dan ga je ze volgend jaar nog eens mogen reviewen, als je een totaalbeeld wil geven.

Steenhof, iemand die zo ver op het spectrum zit als jij heeft geen idee wat gewone mensen voelen en belangrijk vinden. Jij bent een robot. Al gesolliciteerd in het directiecomité van de NMBS? Daar zitten er duidelijk nog zo een paar.

I work near Lyon but I live in the bask country. I though I could take you to a TGV cabin on a high speed line some day but because of this fucking covid it's complicated..
