Many of these theories are intuitive, in spite of some strange vocabulary (e.g., Leader-Member Exchange). The challenge comes in putting them into practice!

Trait theory is the idea that human beings have habitual patterns of behavior, cognition, and emotions, and that these patterns are relatively stable over time. The trait approach to leadership is to apply trait theory to leadership. It's the idea that some traits (especially intelligence, extraversion, conscientiousness) are more often found in leaders than in non-leaders.
