For anyone who wants to know the story of this song, I looked it up: The city of Sarajevo was in a war with another city, in the middle of the Bosnian War, and his city was destroyed by his own people. Desperate to do something the old man would go to the highest place he could find, and play music on his cello, things like Mozart and Beethoven. A reporter went to try and find him and ask why he did such a crazy thing. He responded because it was his only way to show that there was still a little bit of humanity in the world.

***** Maybe so but Sarajevo was and still is both Serbian and Bosnian town so, destroyed by its own people is the right definition. If you think any sides in that was was innocent you're also wrong, all three sides committed atrocities upon the others.

The Marines saw the damage the Devil inflicted upon Santa's workshop and the USMC Engineers rebuilt the Shop,Admin put the orders in for Supply to restock it, the Cooks made sure the coffee was hot and dinner on the way,Recon chased down the Devil and made him pay dearly.The USMC Reserves helped build the toys and other gifts and the Motor Transport made sure everything was delivered on time.And Christmas was saved! I will never ever forget the first time I heard this song on the radio .....I was completely blown away... every time it came back on , I turned the radio all the way up... couldn't wait to hear that they were finally coming to Columbia South Carolina.. my wife and I had tickets on the third row... one of the most amazing Amazing concerts that I have ever ever seen and Believe Me brother I've seen a lot of them... The Trans Siberian Orchestra is a culmination of talented creative musicians, while spreading peace through very beautiful music. This is an awesome organization. They do a stupendous job of composing musical pieces, utilizing traditional orchestra instruments, and weaving more modern instruments such as electric guitars into the composition. The leadership has obvious talent and foresight. Trans Siberian Orchestra rocks. I do appreciate the story with the historical perspective in the comments section on the war, and the playing of music.

You should look up Savatage’s album Dead Winter Dead… this song came off that album… TSO started as a side project by Jon Oliva who was also a founding member of Savatage.

I miss my Bosnia 🇧🇦, I was there during war , lost my childhood, teenage years. Came to Canada 🇨🇦 after everything was over. I am so thankful and proud to call Canada my new home. I remember when they released this song🙏 thank you everyone for your supportand for being thoughtful 🤗❤️ love you my Sarajevo ❤️

In August 1983 I was working in Krsko and staying in Zagreb. Everyone was so happy to be hosting the Olympics. Everyone was fearful of what they knew was coming. Tito had died, and the glue that held Yugoslavia together was coming apart. What happened then was senseless. What's happening today is senseless.

This song gives me chills every time I hear it - and I've been hearing it for a long, long time. Got to be over 20 years now. That's staying power. I can't tell you how many times I've seen TSO perform it live as well. A masterpiece, written by Savatage, before they morphed into TSO. I've always LOVED the fake snow in the video.

Who would have ever thought a little known Metal band named "Savatage" from the 80's would create the huge success that TSO has become! Thanks Paul O'Neill and Jon Oliva for the inspiration, and having gotten to know you and your late brother Criss. He was an awesome human. Still remember when you guys played Bonnie's Roxx in South Jersey and The Empire Rock Club in N.E Philly!

Our entire orchestral strings program with an electric guitar accompaniment plays it annually as the finale for our holiday show. I’m four years out of high school but I still remember part (I played the double bass). 10/10 love playing this so much.

This song by TSO LIVE changed my perception of music as just a freshman, starting marching band. The radio and recordings do no justice to witnessing this mastery in person. TSO's rendition has never left my brain and after longer than a decade I can still recall the chills hearing this for the first time with my own ears. If you ever get the chance, definitely experience it at least once.

There are stunning contrasts in the arrangement. The lovely pure innocent little girl and her kittens in a crazy world of chaos wars and strife that all advance and compound quickly!!! The traditional orchestra fused with rock and roll guitar that shreds!!! A masterpiece!!!
