Can you do a video on how to get past resentment for lazy coworkers who have made your life hell while they get promoted? The lack of meritocracy makes me so angry!

This is easy. Forgive them. Release them from the hold they have over you. Stop wishing things were different, accept them as they are and act accordingly.

Most people are too busy to look past initial confidence. If you are confident, hardly anyone will take the time to really discern whether you "deserve" to be confident. Your confidence SELLS ITSELF.

I tend to struggle with confidence because if I show up confident and go along with a plan or proposal but the plan or proposal failed, I fear people say "what happened? You said it will work and we trusted you. You even sounded so confident." However, I believe my lack of confidence is me not putting enough time and energy to a project because it's not something I am genuinely interested in doing.

Yeah you are right. I have the same issue. If I show confidence and things go wrong, people are highly critical. If I show little confidence and the same plan fails, no one is bothered and believe I tried my best. So there’s no reprocussions.

Really loved the segment on quiet quitting!
@JenniferBrick
@JenniferBrick 2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad. I'm plotting a bigger video on it because I think we really need to get into the context of what's happening and how to do it and capitalize on it - because I don't think that quiet quitting means you need to lean out of big pay raises and whatnot (and that's the real risk when it's not properly executed).

I think it would have been cool if you had become a spy 🕵️‍♀️ ! But unlike work , betrayal can be not just toxic .. but lethal. Glad you are here helping us stay on the course to success 😃 !

I still think top secret spy would have been such a fun job, though the reality is probably not as thrilling as it looks in movies haha.

I'm so afraid of taking more challenging roles and fail. I have been with this company for 7 year still in the same entry level job. I'm so insecure about my problem solving skills and ability to undertake challenging projects. Every time I apply for higher level position I secretly wish I don't get the job...recently I got a job offer for a more challenging job and now I'm panick mode considering to decline the offer. I have until tomorrow to communicate my final decision to the hiring manager. I am terrified as I feel this could be my only chance to advance my career in this organization but at the same time I feel so insecure about my ability to perform well in more complex projects.

What do you do if literally nothing came to mind when you ask that question "what do you want to do?"? I've done two kinds of career coaching (really expensive), have asked this question so many times (also in therapy) and the biggest problem in my life - that's held me back from even starting a career and I'm in my mid 30s, so really starting to freak out about the lack of time to figure this out - is, no matter the amount of assessments, coaching, etc. I do, I haven't gotten clarity in years. "What do you want to do?" is a question I have no been able to answer; my problem isn't that I'm not doing what I want; it's that, of all the different jobs I've tried, all the assessments/coaching/therapy/etc., nothing has brought me clarity to that question.

I feel I'm in the same boat too. I have a bachelor's degree and yet I can't ever seem to prove to anyone that I'm capable of making more then minimum wage. It seems even if you have a degree no one really cares. Ok I'm not working in my field but my degree is kind of broad and I don't really know what it covers so I'm in the " what do you want to do? I don't know. If you don't know what you want to do it doesn't matter what direction you go."

🤣🤣🤣 Truly though, i think most people get bogged down in the day to day. There's a level of when you're an IC, the business doesn't need you looking out more than 1-3 months, right. So that's where the focus is, the piece of the puzzle. Zooming out to the big picture is a skill to be developed!

OK, this isn't about me, but I have a coworker who is the mother of a 20-year-old currently unemployed daughter who has been actively pursuing her dream job of being a Twitch Streamer. She's been pursuing this for over a year, and has 20 followers. She isn't working and her mom is struggling to support her financially. The mother seems very, very frustrated and hopeless about it. Any ideas for this young woman?

Honestly, I've never read a book on this subject that has been a valuable use of time or money. Most are fluff that are written to sell high ticket coaching programs. Personally, I learned on the job by running services business and scaling them to multiple millions for several software companies, and I have paid tens of thousands for programs and coaches to help me close skills and knowledge gaps that would have prevented my success or slowed it down on my entrepreneurial journey.
