▶️Introduction
All of the parts related to electrical transformers are discussed in this video.
Transformer Core
Thin laminate steel sheets clamped together to form a steel core. The core focuses the magnetic field.
Transformer Windings
Copper or aluminium windings allow current to flow. Current is induced in the secondary windings due to the magnetic field created by the current flowing in the primary winding.
Transformer Bushings
Used to connect the transformer windings to the external electrical circuit. Usually bushings are manufactured from Porcelain.
Transformer Tank
Used with hermetic and conservator type transformers to house the internal transformer components.
Buchholz Relay (similar to gas actuated relay)
Alarms and trips depending upon the type of fault present within the transformer and also if the insulating liquid level becomes low. Learn more:
• How Buchholz Relays Work
Radiators
Used for cooling of the transformer insulating liquid.
Magnetic Oil Gauge (MOG)
Used for measuring the insulating liquid level within the transformer conservator tank. Learn more:

Silica Gel Dehydrating Breather
Used for drying of the air as it is drawn into the conservator tank. The oil cup at the base of the unit is used to filter foreign particles. Learn more:

Off and On Load Tap Changer

I am a lowly 'low volt' (120/240v 1ph; and 3ph) residential and commercial (some industrial) electrician in South Florida. This is the first time I have really read/seen/heard ANY detailed information on transformers and their design and operational characteristics. Very, very interesting, entertaining and informative. Thank you. There is a guy named Mousa Al Manasif [2 years ago, from now 01/02/2022[], who complemented and thank for this presentation - but brought up a few things where he says there were a few incorrect statements made in this video concerning: "However I noticed two things that are incorrect: 1- OLTC on load tap changes are divided to two parts a. Diverter switch ( the arcing and the interpretation of the current, have separate compartment) b. selector switch ( the part inside the TR main tank which shares the same oil of the TR) OLTC diverter switches ( are always separate from the TR main tank 2- At the end of the video OT ( oil temperature gage) the red Needle is only a memory needle to show the highest temperature recorded by the OT. When the black needle ( showing actual temperature) moves up it will move the red needle along with it but when the temperature goes down the black needle will go down the red needle will stay at the maximum temperature the OT recorded so operator can see it during there inspection". Could you comment on this. And if he was correct: Are you looking to create a revised version of this video; or add an addendum that addresses these things one way or the other? Either way, the video was superbly done.. Thank you again.

Diverter switch compartment is separate which contains its own oil. During tap changing operations (raise/lower), selector switch contact is selected first and then diverter switch contact changes its position from odd to even or vice versa and desired tap is selected.

As a new engineer in utilities, your videos are far better than anything I've learned on the job or in my schooling. For 9.99 euros i feel like I will be stealing from you. We get emails for courses all the time and they're always like $500 usd. Doubt my work will pay me back but for 9.99 it's worth it

Great! Refreshed knowledge I had 35 years ago as a fledgling 11kV Authorized Person. Might have mentioned operationally that certainly oil cooled transformers can usually accept short term overload periods considering a 24 hour duty cycle. Finally, let's hope all "Pyrochlor" PCB oil has all been safely disposed of. Beware also that toxic brew was also used in early fluorescent light ballasts that might still be lurking in our sheds.
@Mad_Scientist2052
@Mad_Scientist2052 2 жыл бұрын
Out of all the comments made here this is one of great importance. The use of PCB's was widespread and there is undoubtedly many transformers lurking around with this free cancer toxic soup. It was also a very good thing to mention those old magnetic fluorescent lighting ballasts with the potted black toxic tar in them. I have come across many of these in the past. It helps to be wary of the potential dangers of these to help protect yourself from them and hope others see the importance of this. Excellent comment and Thank you.
