In Transformers, the name of Megatron brings fear to his enemies and allies alike. The Generation One Megatron toy is much sought after and, even though it was reissued in Japan, it remains elusive to many. Knockoffs of this toy are rare, but Captain Kyle has the “Destroy Monarch” G1 Megatron to review for you.
Megatron is the leader of the Decepticons and originally changed into a James Bond-style toy Walther P38 with a silencer, scope, and stock. However, US toy regulations keep Hasbro from reissuing this Transformer. And while the Masterpiece has a similar alt-mode and there are plenty of third-party versions, there’s nothing quite like the original toy in the original scale. Enter “Destroy Monarch,” which is a knockoff of the original toy Megatron, though includes accessories only found with the reissue from Takara. Captain Kyle checks out this elusive toy to see if it’s something you might want for your collection.

Hell, this KO is just about as tough to get your hands on as an OG. Well played, sir! I don't understand why KOs of G1 Megs are so uncommon. To my mind, it's a low-hanging, golden plum just waiting to picked-the perfect balance of high demand and low supply that makes a KO maker drool.

That $19.99 price tag informs us a bit on how much profit there is in transforming robots for the likes of Hasbro, et al, too.

💯 agreed, it really puzzles me why ko's aren't cranking out G1 megs. Interestingly you can find lots of airsoft ripoffs and some really cool cap guns in Chinese physical markets but they are difficult, but not impossible, to find online.

The KO makers might be afraid toy gun laws in some countries could affect sales, but I think Australia is the only place that really enforces such laws. The US has them but I've never heard of any Megatrons imported being confiscated, likely because customs doesn't care to waste time on toys. Or maybe they feel the mold is too complex to copy well?

I got one of these for my daughter back in 2006. By and large it was pretty good, but it had one catastrophic defect that killed it for me. The diecast swing arms that the robot arms are attached to had pins instead of screws like the real one, and one of those armatures was constantly falling off if I transformed it.

I remember finding this at a swap meet in about 2009 for $15 bucks. Parents gave it away to my cousin when I went to college and when I went to get it back it was busted up

This Reissue is most likely based on the Japanese Reissues from the 2000s. Especially in the name Destroy Monarch = Destron Leader

So glad I bought this KO a while back in college. Wish I kept the card back and bubble, but they were so huge and had already been damaged in shipping.

The Walther P-38 was used in The Man From U. N. CL. E. not James Bond!

@@ToySpotlitethe gun yes, the scope and stock not so much. That part was fully inspired by The Man from U.N.C.L.E., however, the Japanese release was actually neither. No licesne (to kill or otherwise) for elither franchise, but they did include the U.N.C.L.E. acronym in the title and not 007.

Holy crap... I had one of those actually in the G1 Megatron deco way back in 2006! Mine was pretty hard to distinguish from an original G1, and it even came with a Decepticon version of the matrix on a chain, which somehow I still have despite not having the figure since I sold it in 2008...

Never ridicule anyone. Never physically attack anyone. Pulling a gun on someone and sending them underground is fine though. There are far too many normal people in the world.
