It's such an interesting and detailed transformation to end up with such a nothing of an alt mode. Very strange

The lore for Pretenders now basically seems like it's just the robot mode pretending to be something else like a monster or a human. Which...is not a bad idea.

I would kill for the original head sculpt for the Pretender interior bot form to swap out with the skull. It just doesn't match up with the rest of the line...but man, I love the way the body looks.

I just don't think the blocky bot works for skullgrin, which is a shame, as I was keen for a new figure of him. And soft plastic weapons? meh

What confuses me about that alt mode is how easily they coulda put molded treads on the side of the leg and boom not silly tank

Have yoy seen the "Balistik" fan mode? Make the alt mode so much cooler and easy to fan transformed it too!

Why spend $25 for a mediocre tank mode when you can spend $10 on core class megatron that actually looks like a tank?

Honestly, I like him, even the vehicle mode, It gives me some kind of "ship of the desert" vibes; I imagine the pretenders gang in an arid Mad Max like environment attacking the passerbys by boarding them, with Skullgrin carrying Iguanus and Bomburst on his "deck", ready to jump on their victim.

Those pegs are ports man.

Skullgrin looks more like a glorified weaponizer which its a possibility it could work with siege shockwave. LOL

It’s impressive that the alt mode is somehow worse than the G1 nothing alt mode of the original. If I recall, it was some kind of weird made up fighter with tank details, but at least it looked vaguely like a jet. This is just a load of nothing. Like Siege Soundwave but worse. Still, the bot mode slays and I wouldn’t be opposed to buying one just to swap out the head to make the astonishingly average bot mode of the original toy.

These are nice figures, but the prices are way to much.

basing the robot mode on the Pretender Shell is sometimes a hit or a miss, with the example being Botcon Metal Hawk who is a retool of Universe Thunderwing straight up has a human head for his robot mode instead of basing it after his inner golden robot mode.

I will definitely be giving this a miss. I'm not too fond of the faux Pretenders but the alt mode killed it for me. That and it's basically partsforming.

I’d be fine with the loss of the outer shell if at least the skull head was a hat/helmet covering the original robot mode.

I'd add a spiky Road roller bit or a Circular Saw to the front of the vehicle mode. Go full 40K.

The alt mode is trash, and He's a deluxe instead of core so he doesn't even match Iguanus and Bomb-burst. Total fail. 100% passed on him.

ok so unpopular opinion, i would love to see them bring back obscure characters in the 80s and 90s and reengineer them, i would love to see the not so popular characters such as Clench, Staxx ( yes really) and Road Grabber all be reintroduced, not sure what do call the factions but like have 2 teams of reject transformers: Decepticons could be the WreckCons and the Autobots could be the Reject Wreckers ( workshop it) and the line could be called Rejects of Cybertron The names need some serious workshopping, but it could be a way to bring back old faces and maybe give the old toys a lift, and technically they would be something mostly new, the toys in alot of cases have not resurfaced in at least 20- 30 years and if they can give Flywheels a great figure, why not bring back some old forgotten characters, and give the main cast a break for a bit. Skullgrin is not completely obscure but more pretenders redesigns would be cool too, maybe bring back a new ultra pretender, update them, some looked really cool, not sure if anyone else thought of this but i am for updates if it means we get new toys that aren't just a retread of the main cast over and over again

Agree. Not a great alt mode, but at least it isn't as bad as Bumblebee Movie Soundwave's alt. My biggest complaint: why are the neo-pretenders different classes?
