Many professors think being affirming to transgender people is comprised of using their correct name and pronouns, however affirming behaviors go far beyond this. They stretch to include remaining away from pathological thinking, implicit bias, binary views on gender, victim or burden blaming, exploitation, tokenism and so much more. This speech will help the viewer understand many additional components that are essential to all work in unison, in order to create safe spaces on campus for transgender and gender-diverse students, faculty, and staff. If I'm trying to be supportive and understanding critiquing me is not going to make me try harder. Since it shows that regardless of how hard I might try it won't be appreciated. This is saying to completely change how you live and see the world. Most people don't want to do that, trying to be there and be supportive should be enough as it shows the person cares enough to try, so throwing something like, oh, you're not trying hard enough," in someone's face should not be the response to someone trying to put true effort into accepting the trans and non-binary community.

Marginized people are not asking for anything more than what non-marginized people expect and receive in their daily lives. Is it so difficult to be respectful and courteous even if a person does not look like you? Great message and presentation, Heidi. I know that took courage to put yourself in line for criticism when all you are trying to do is create a fair world

I went to a popular art college. The majority of the students were lgbtqia+ including teachers, staff, and students. Everyone was unapologetically themselves, safe spaces are very important and there should be more of them.

So, talking about fabric of society and pronouns... If a man kidnaped a boy, but both of them identify as a "she", how would you properly announce the amber alert? And if later a young male body is found, do you acknowledge that it's a male body, based on it's anatomy?

If trans women are women, why have the word trans in front of woman, and then why is there any need to transition, if they are women already?

I was born visible. However I now identify as invisible. I am trans-parent. My pronouns are who/where.

I struggled a lot in my English learning journey to understand you, he, she & they.... & who to call what. Now you’re telling me I have to relearn that again??? No thanks. I quit speaking English. Goodbye.

The flaw may not be with your ability to understand the meaning of certain words. Perhaps it is the visual perception that you have become accustomed to associating with certain words. Change is constant, like it or not. You do not need to relearn English. You either respect people the way they identify themselves, or you don't. That is an entirely different subject.

@@mythornshaveroses6472 I actually don’t respect all people. I respect people based on their actions and what I think about it. However, I agree with a lot of what you said. The only constant thing in life is change.
