Historically speaking, we have repressed sexuality in our country in a way that has not benefited expression. We have also repressed the truth of childhood trauma and early exposure to sexual acts and how that interferes with healthy development.

Kids are exposed to it so early now. It's permeated culture and since we're a more open society we don't interfere with them once they've discovered it. On the one hand you could shut it down, but you'd also be imposing upon something that people will naturally discover anyways, so the question is how long should children be sheltered from this?

I want to agree with you about not needing church, but as someone who's had a mental break I can say that there's a part of our brain / psychology that when the shit hits the fan we reach out for a power bigger than us for help. And that safety mechanism is important (at least it was to me), to have that life line available when in need. Once you've reached out for it in desperation it's hard not to respect it.
