Watch Kitty groom her own rough-coated Jack Russell Terrier in this 3 part series! This is part 3 where Kitty handstrips Luna to look more like a proper showdog! The previous session was 2,5 weeks ago. In this video, we strip, bathe and dry Luna and eventually use chalk products to make her totally show-ready. At the end of this video, Luna is ready to go into the show ring.

I like the jack russells plucked short on the head. I think it looks cleaner for longer too. But I know this is for a show.

She’s adorable!!! Jacks, Scotties, Bouviers♥️my personal breeds. She looks great! Love using the “ fingercots “ they work great... we have seemed to have learned very similarly how to groom. It’s a lost art in the USA anyway...

Hello Kitty, I’ve only recently come across your videos, and they are so helpful! My father has bred and shown Kerry Blue Terriers for 40+ years, I would love to see your tips & tricks for a Kerry! We also recently got a Wire Fox Terrier that we have used the clippers on to date... I’ve ordered some tools after watching your videos and I’m looking forward to hand stripping her and seeing her colouring come back! I would also love to see a video about a wire fox if possible! Ms. Kitty, I love love love your video! Thank you for showing so much detail. Also, I have a Jack Russell (i think). Thats what the Humane Society called him, but it was a stray, and I've never had him groomed to look like this. However, when I feed him an additional shiny skin &coat powder from Dr. Marty, his hair gets silky soft. I am not promoting anything, I have NO affiliation, except I do give him food and the probiotic powder, too, from them. Before this, his coat was very course. Ms. Kitty, may I send you a picture of him and you send a pic of best cut for him? If not, it's ok, thank you so much, anyway. Will continue watching your videos.

What is the recommended frequency for bathing dogs with rough coats? Is it advisable to bathe them every time they are plucked? I look forward to your response, thank you very much.

Hello , thank you so much for your positive feedback and Question . Bathing a wire coated dog , is depending from dog to dog. I personally would advice , to wash your dog in between the grooming sessions. Also it's depending of the environment, does he run a lot in the forest , or is it just for laying on the sofa :-) . I know you said that the hair needs to have texture for dog shows and needs to be rough - but what would you use on a house dog (jack russell) to make the fur as soft as possible? thank you in advance :)

Hello , thank you for your comment . Well, the JRT had a rough coat . or a broken coat. If you want to have a dog with a softer coat, I suggest you prefer another breed ; Cause otherwise you will disappointed :-)

When they play and roll around, won't will the chalk product get on furniture, etc? Is this just for show? As they play - the coat won't hold form correct?

Hi , thank you so much for your question. it's a product to be used on dogshows, groomingcompetitions but even in the grooming shop . It's to handstrip and finishing the dogs coat . yes, it can be , that some chalk get on the Furniture. But you get a very better result . thx

A wire coated JAck russel will shed a lot if you don't handstrip to he coat. if you handstrip the coat every 4 - 6 weeks, you don't have no hair in your home . Hello Leon, dogs with long hair are normally washed weekly dogs with shorter hair don’t usually have weekly baths. however we also shower every day and there’s nothing wrong with wanting to have a clean dog in the house as long as you use mild shampoo you can wash your dogs every week.

Hello Maria, sorry for my very late reply. I hope this wil help you .... I have been showing dogs all my life and for me there is no difference in a show dog or pet dog. The only difference in the skin from our dogs is the PH, ours (human) is between 4,7 and 5,75 PH and from our dogs between 5,5 and 7,2 but this is no reason why you can't wash the dogs more often or less often. If you gave a dog with long hair and you would like to have the coat long and healthy this hair needs to be in top condition you will have to wash weekley and use conditioners and or products with oil to moisturise the coat. After a week the hair is usually very dry and don't forget the dog walks on the floor and the coat is catching all the dirt, in the summer the sun dries the coat and in the winter the heating dries teh coat . By washing and conditioning weekly you protect the coat and nurture the coat This way the coat will grow long, stay strong and be beautiful. A long time ago dogs lived more in the cold and more outside, they needed to have the oil to protect them against the cold. Now dogs live very close to us and in the house, they also don't produce so much wool and oil to protect them. For me it's wonderful to have clean and good smelling dogs in the house with a long and healthy coat. If you have short haired breeds there is no reason the wash weekly but if it's was my dog I probably would wash once a month. I hope this helped, keep safe Maria
