Transit smiley mot failure can I get it through mk5 welding needed # rust

So my smiley has failed it’s mot, today I started to work on the repairs that are much worse than first thought

we had a smiley about 10 years ago. it was a lovely old tipper. just wish we had put the money into it and kept it on the road

Most won't know/agree but compared to the newer ones, these are a comparative doddle to repair. The further you come up the years, the harder they are to weld on and from 2012 onwards, they're an absolute total pita. I know as I repair an endless stream of them for clients, from MK1 & 2 versions right up to MK 6/7's.

To be honest I just wish I was first in,, I hate welding when something has been botched before.. one day I may end up stripping it fully back

Remove the wing and weld in a factory panel, much easier. Nice work though.

The wing was welded to the previous inner wing roughly,, it’s all a bit botch really mot repair only) it needs steps, wings and inner wings one day

Excellent video Very entertaining, too much hard work thought I used to do gas welding & never got the hang of MIG welding, that was over 30 years ago 😃😃😃

Good seeing another Smiley saved , my dads pal has a 1997 smiley its been welded 10 times minimum 250,000 miles nearly

It needs some more intrusive work done in the future but for now I will just make sure it’s solid 👍

@@NicksGarageUk I’ve recently just bought a 2004 Subaru Forester turbo manual xt in a very rare Red colour drives and handles so well took it from cockermouth cumbria too Glasgow has a years ticket when I bought it so 11 months now. £1750 from 1995 as i put my finger through the rear suspension turret/ inner sill areas subframe has been replaced and most of the cars been undersealed i might try get 2 patch welds

hi. i had the same problems with old Land Rovers,rust buckets, why the clowns dont dip vehicles in rust preserve i dont know, i do like transits from the 70s and 80s

My preference would have been a mk2 transit truck but they are to rare and expensive for my use now,,

I’ve come across this video, I’m currently restoring my Transit Mk5 recovery truck and my reg is S602VOG. Must’ve surely been part of the same fleet?
