I’m almost 7 months into a modified cgm! I know I’m still in the transitioning process, as I had severely damaged hair to start (I’m talking a years and years of regular heat and chemical damage). I’ve seen real differences so far, and I know there is more to go because I won’t do the big chop, at least yet. Thanks for all your help Gena, you’re one of the KZfaqrs I’ve watched hours worth of videos that helped me through the process thus far.

I feel letdown by hairstylists because they never told me I had wavy hair in years and years. They always came at me with heat tools and no one could explain my puffy frizz. No one I ever saw had hair like mine until I started watching CG videos about 3 years ago and recognized my puffy hair on other people. So sorry I just learned about curly styling now when I have all this gray and a not so young face. Still blessed I have a full head of hair and am so enjoying experimenting to see what this wavy hair will actually do. Thanks for the info you provide.

To anyone who is just starting to transition to their natural curly hair: I personally didn’t have a hair day that I genuinely liked for 5+ months into my natural curly hair journey. I had severely damaged hair. Even though my hair in the back at the ends were already curly, I had such a hard time with the transition process. I gave up multiple times, but each time I ended up remembering something I read about quitting the cgm, that ‘your hair is gonna be curly regardless, it is still going to take work to make it look “nice” no matter if you’re damaging it with heat and chemicals, or if you’re taking care of it and allowing it to thrive’ anyways I am still in the transition process but I’ve noticed a difference clear as day about the level of difficulty it takes to style my hair months ago, versus now. And now I’ll get a better result. Anyway long comment, I’m sure no one will read, but I really want to encourage those who are in the same situation I was in ~7 months ago

I can use some tips tbh… My hair has been naturally curly for as long as I can remember but in the last few years it’s been straighter and flatter on the top. I don’t use heat much, probably 3 times a year of that, and I let it airdry… I know I need a routine to bring it back to life, I just don’t know what products to use, what to do, or how often ro do it

@@navdeepkaur8387 hi! I also struggle with a similar issue with flat and straight roots. I think for me it may be my hair type, or just the damage on the ends can weigh down the hair and stretch the curl out at the root. (Hair cuts can also bring life back to your curls) I don’t know the products you use already but I highly recommend eliminating silicones because that’s a big difference for me. I try to incorporate some protein into my products because being overly moisturized can also weigh down the curls. Other suggestions would be using a gel and scrunching to the root fresh out of the shower if you aren’t already. Or drying your hair with a cotton t shirt and then styling. Or actually using a brush and curling your hair around it up to the roots. And diffusing is a big help for many people, I’m rarely diffuse but it can make a big difference in the curl going up to the roots. Gena has great videos on diffusing and also styling hair to encourage curls up to the root. Definitely mess around with some different options, and see what works best for you. You may not see the results immediately but if you keep at it you will! Hope this helps please let me know if I can suggest anything else!

Hi Gena! I just wanted to thank you for all your amazing content for curly hair. After being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2020, about 70% of my hair fell out due to treatments and medications. I had slightly wavy hair before, but my hair that has grown back in is curly! I had no idea how to care for/style curly hair and your videos and blog posts have been instrumental in helping me learn how to take care of my new curls. I get so many compliments on my hair now. It was hard transitioning and growing my hair out, but I recently had my first curly haircut and got all the old, thin parts cut off and I LOVE my curls now! Thank you so much for all your help! 💕💖💕

I never knew I had curly/wavy hair until a few weeks ago. I’ve been trying CGM and I’ve seen some success, but I have damage from bleaching/highlights. My hair looks a lot like yours when it’s wet, but when it dries it looses sooo much volume and definition. I’ve been watching your videos to try and learn how to help my hair get to the point where it’s healthy and defined again!

The key is not to give up and keep on going. I actually find it is more work to keep my hair straight, because I have rather short hair (but a loooooooot of it and quite dense) so blow drying with a round brush takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r and I am much quicker with using curl styling products and diffusing :) Watching your channel really helped me understand my hair and take good care of it. Now I am planning to order some curlsmith products because I can now finally order them from Lookfantastic :D I am aiming mostly for rehab salve and curl creams/souffle ;)

Hi, I’m new to your channel and binge watched a bunch of your videos just today, ended up with an info overload. I have naturally curly hair that in the last few years as been straight-ish on the top, and flatter. I’ve never dyed it, only straighten it once every 6 months, let it air-dry mostly cause I haven’t had luck learning how to use a diffuser the right way, even got a chop 6 months ago. I was hoping you could make a video of like a full week of hair routine where you talk about the whole process? Like from dry detangle, pre-poo, shampoo, conditioning styling ? And all the products you use? Basically a beginner transitioning how-to guide

I've also even doubted diffusing hair with all the products in it, you know? Especially gel. It has been extra hard for me and it just won't last more than 2 days. I just think I have to go HIGH END products, but I can't afford it. I've done it all. Pre poo and MANY products (trial and error) Been years now. Last thing I'll do is cut it so it won't weigh down so much. After that, I think I will be done. Thanks 😊

Hi Gena. I still get confused about protein and if I should use it. I do have that Briogeo conditioner and use it every 3 weeks. But the rest of the time I use Jessicurl. I have thin hair and have grown out the dye in my hair. It is currently 50% gray. The gray strands are a bit more course than my dark strands. My hair seems better without too much protein. Just curious about your opinions on protein. Thank you. ❤️
@GenaMarie

If you hair is healthy you likely wont need much protein, so a deep conditioner containing protein every once in a while is great! You'll want to avoid a protein-heavy routine if you have coarse and/or gray hair

@rachellep2581
@rachellep2581 2 жыл бұрын
Second day transitioning hair is always so so difficult. I recommend listening to your hair. Feel it, is it matted because it's dry? If so allow for a more moisturizing washday with deep conditioning treatment etc. Trouble shoot your moisture balance in your routine with products and refresh moisturizing cocktails. Are your ends rough and or split in need of a trim and causing the matting. If no, is your pillow case cotton? Do you wear a bonnet to sleep? Do you apply a hard hold gel on wash day. This would better allow your hair to hold its shape. Your hair has memory. During transition the hair is very confused and wants to revert back to the familiar. What is most important to know is, transitioning hair is hard, hard for everyone. It will get better, so much better. Hang in there hope this helps.

Does anyone have any tips or products for swimmers? I've had my hair curly now for a few years but only in the last couple of months using a proper routine. Swim hats don't really keep the pool water off my hair and I get terrible tangles / shedding / rubbish day 2 (no washing). I'm thinking of giving up the swimming or reducing from current 3/4 days per week as I think it is ruining my hair. Would appreciate any tips.
@raraavis7782
@raraavis7782 2 жыл бұрын
Dr. Dray (a KZfaq dermatologist) has a video about swimming and skin/hair...and one of the points she made, was to thoroughly soak your hair in tabwater, before going into the pool, so the chlorine water won't get absorbed as much. When I went swimming with still long hair occasionally, I would also put oil in my hair before I went to the pool, bundle it up tightly, then shower like that, just letting water soak into the bun. A little extra oil around the hairline and then a bathing cap. Washing and conditioning afterwards, obviously. I didn't style my hair though, just let it air-dry, so frequent washing wasn't as much of a bother. Can't imagine, doing my current routine that often after a long swim (poor arms, lol).

You make your routines easy! We try to get it, but very confusing! How Often to use protein and deep conditioning? Hairstylers we use in summer and winter don't work....use glycerin on winter/summer? Living in California weather we just don't know why at times we get beautiful curls and ringlets, other times frizz no definition! What r we doing wrong?
@GenaMarie
@GenaMarie 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on if your hair is damaged with how often you should incorporate protein. I use stylers with protein often and use a deep conditioner with protein every other week. I deep condition weekly. In California if you have low humidity and it’s not super dry you shouldn’t have to worry about glycerin. I wouldn’t overthink it! Unless you’re having a lot of trouble with your curls
