Gena Marie, your videos are SO HELPFUL to many of us. Per MyManeBio, I have low, normal, and high porosities, as well as 1/4 fine, 1/4 medium, and 1/2 coarse, medullated dry hair (life-long low thyroid and I'm almost 70 yo). I've learned SO MUCH from watching you and I really appreciate your time and training in helping us. THANK YOU.

I use the Olaplex bonding oil, and I really like it. I just use a small amount before SOTC because it helps to break the cast so much easier and also gives my hair a little bit of shine and feel less dry.

Awesome video, very helpful! What does the oil smell like? I read in the ingredients "Fragrance" and I honestly don't like Curlsmith's scents because they are artificial and perfumey. I prefer natural scents that are essential oil based or natural plant extracts. Would you say this is similar to other Curlsmith products scent-wise? Or more natural? Thanks!

I think all the Curlsmith reviews and demos at once gets a little overwhelming, so I just wait for yours. 😂 I appreciate the amount of thought and research you put into your videos. Thank you! I'm exited to try this oil, my hair is low porosity and fine to medium texture so their serum wasn't an option for me.

I agree. I don't really care for the way Curlsmith plans their advertising campaigns. I understand that influencers like their products and want/deserve to get paid for talking about them, but when every single Instagrammer and KZfaqr is doing the same products/topics at the same time, it feels overwhelming and is off-putting. I do appreciate that Gena adds a lot of extra information and makes her videos more educational.

Thank you so much for the kind words and feedback. A lot of times when companies have a new launch they try and get the word out with a big splash. I totally understand the perspective of the viewer as well. I try and provide as much value with information as possible to hopefully help everyone decide if a product that is right for their curls. ❤️

Hi Gena, great video & accompanying blog. Could you please help me understand what oils are what? For example I have the Ghost oil. I like it for end of styling. Not sure I ever use enough for fear of build up. Next I also own Virtue’s Healing oil. Like it but is heavier than the Ghost oil. Where would the CurlSmith Bonding oil fit in? Closer to Ghost oil or Healing oil? I also LOVE my serum from Nick Chavez. It is a serum that I use on wet hair & dry. I used to add it to my conditioner too but I stopped.. I don’t know why. I am trying to keep my hair from getting totally tangled. This is new for me. I believe it is dry. Crazy how it just happened 🤷🏻‍♀️ So I use the serum at the end of styling too. It’s called Velvet Mesquite serum. It’s really great. So I am sure you haven’t tried the Nick Chavez product but what about the Ghost vs Virtue vs CurlSmith? Ty for your videos. Btw you look beautiful on the CurlSmith website 😊

How does using an oil on wash day to soften the cast affect second day or third day refresh? Doesn’t the oil interfere with water absorption in the hair or prevent water activation of gel? I really liked using the oil to soften up the cast and prevent frizz on second day hair and would like to use it on my first day.

Jojoba oil is really meant for the scalp. It is the oil that is most like sebum. It is excellent for the health of hair follicles and unclogging them, but straight application of pure jojoba is definitely too oily to put on hair lengths. It has to be cut with something to make it work.

Gena I have a question for you about curlsmith creams and leave ins. Is their one you would recommend for course hair. I know you find them all pretty similar so I wonder if they stand alone well and if they do much at all for course hair. I usually need allot of moisture and some protein. I want to try Curl Smith though in the form of a cream. I see so many Curl Smith products being used by fine haired curly's. I get nervous it will be too light and just don't bother purchasing. I know our hair texture is pretty similar. I am torn between purchasing a cream from Jessie's curl or curlsmith. Any advice would be appreciated 😊.

So I’ve been struggling for years with my hair it’s type 3b and it always feels like it needs protein, I used to be on vitamin b5 (for acne) for a couple years and it was so awful for my hair and it feels my damage is irreversible. I always feel like my hair needs protein but treatments every week never really work , my hair feels really off balance all the time can u please suggest some products or treatments?

Try a protein treatment, like curlysmith curl bond rehab treatment, if your hair is still firzzy afterwards, try a deep conditioner, like shea moisture Manuka honey mask. Your hair is either missing moisture or protein, and you can only figure out by trying protein treatments and moisturise treatments to see which ones improve your hair.
