Ever try to understand issues and error codes from your car's ECU? What if we used an AI like ChatGPT to diagnose and translate those issues in a more meaningful way?
I wanted to see if I could make AI like ChatGPT useful in terms of car maintenance by giving it a read out of ECU errors I got from a BimmerLink scan and having it diagnose and translate them into plain English along with what might have caused the issue and how I could fix it. The results were interesting and even found something I didn’t expect from my Valvetronic exhaust upgrade!
Here is the ChatGPT prompt I wrote up. You can probably make this 10x better with more instruction.

I have a [type of car]. I just ran a diagnostic scan with an OBDII scanner and got some errors that I'd like you to translate to more meaningful information. I'm going to paste the list of errors in the following format: error group name, number of errors, error code: description. Some groups have multiple errors which I will list on their own line. As an expert BMW mechanic, interpret each error and provide a plain English explanation for it, give me your best estimation of why the error might have been triggered, and provide 1-2 troubleshooting solutions for resolving the error. Also, if possible, provide an idea of the severity of the error. If there are multiple errors for the same group and you notice that the errors are related, provide an overall assessment of what might be happening with that particular module.
I have 2 sets of errors I'm going to provide; we'll start with the first section which is from the "error memory" scan. After I send that, respond to the data and then I'll paste the "info memory" errors. Ready?

Note: I’m using ChatGPT 4 here. Also, minor correction: with BimmerLink, if you click the actual error, it does tell you what milage the car was at when the error happened so you can probably get a rough idea of when the error happened which is better than nothing.
